Dbueler's Christmas-New Years TR

Terrific report! We were in Vegas right before you, and had similar experiences with parents who don't control their noisy rambunctious screaming kids in restaurants and hotel hallways...wow, pardon the rant, but here it comes.

We are trying to have a nice meal, not a 5 star but not McDonalds either. At a table very close to ours was a mom, grandmom and two little kids about 3 years or so of age. While the mom stayed on her cell phone the whole time, the two kiddies were entertaining each other, screaming at the top of their lungs and banging the utensils and plates. Mom was oblivious on her cell phone, grandma appeared to be in a trance. I was wishing the employees would say something but of course they wouldn't. Finally I had had it. I walked over to their table, looked at the kiddies with my finger to my lips..sh sh sh. Think of that old hospital nurse picture except I tried to put a smile in it. The kiddies immediately stopped screaming, I nodded and mouthed a "thank you" to them, and they continued their play but at a reasonably low decibel level. Well, in a few minutes here comes mom toward our table, STILL ON HER CELL PHONE. Mom asked me if I was the one who told her kids to be quiet and I said yes, because their screaming was disturbing. She said "you can't do that because you know children they are going to do what they will and there is nothing you can do about it." I said "well they are now being very good so thanks." She walked back to their table, still on the cell phone. She was on the phone the whole time they ate but the kiddies stayed reasonably quiet. I understand when an infant cries in a restaurant (I don't like it but I understand it), but when the kiddies are old enough to take direction...do something! Had hotel disturbancees also, but that's another story!

Anyway, glad you had such a great time...excellent meals and shows...and some good hits on VP! Especially interested that the MJ show is so good.
Children should be seen and not heard. Now, let's hear from gourdhead......
Thanks for posting your trip report. I really enjoyed reading it!
O2Bnvegas- that is a horrible story, unfortunately it's all too common. Just so little consideration and respect for others anymore.

When we were in a restaurant and my 3 kids started getting a little loud, we always told them the other people were there for a nice meal, not to listen to them!

Great report. Next time you have noisy neighbors at a hotel I hope you do what I do. Wake up really early and call them on their room phone. Then ask how they like being woken up.

Unbelievable the mom didn't miss a beat with her phone, I would think a civilized mom/person would've at least set the phone and walked over to apologize and say thanks let alone be curt with you.

This setup is way too easy - I'll let somebody else supply the punchline....

I also booked an upcoming night at Mirage thru My Vegas. Did you have to go to the MLife desk first, before you check in like you do for other rewards? I lucked out on rewards points. MyVegas has a featured promotion of 15,000 points for Mirage for select nights. Just so happens, one of those nights was what I needed. I don't think that promotion lasted long, I just got lucky.
dbueler, thanks for a great report.

O2bnVegas, I applaud you for asking those kids to be quiet. Sounds like the mom needs to take parenting 101 classes.

Last summer at The Range Harrahs Laughlin , I overheard a man compliment the parents of the family sitting behind me telling what a nice family he had. I turned around and looked. On my way out, I also complimented the family for teaching their kids how to behave in a restaurant. Had I not overheard the first man, I wouldn't have known a family of 5 was sitting behind me.
