December in Vegas & weather

I have been to Vegas 5 times total now. Three of them were this year. I have been to Vegas in October, July, January/February, April/May and September/October. The best weather was definitely April/May.

First time I went was October 19, 2009. The weather was about 92 the first day, but then it was 80 the next couple of days. Second time I went was July 29, 2010, which was the most horrible time I experienced in Vegas. It was 116f walking off the plane and it was 112f at 11pm. Waaaay too hot to walk the strip, even though we did. Third time we went was January 30, 2011- February 2nd. It was about 24f at 4pm. Pretty cold, but I like the cold since it doesn't bother me.

The fourth time was April 30, 2011- May 2nd. Weather was amazing. Temps were 72-79f. The last time which was September 28- October 1st, the temps were still pretty warm. It was about 102f at 4pm. The rest of the trip was about 96-99f. Not bad. The next trip will be this upcoming December 1st.

So, how's Vegas in December? Is it all decked out with Christmas decorations?? Hotels/Casinos do anything special?? How's the weather?
Hey Franco.....

We love Christmas in Vegas. Going again this year.

The weather is always cold at night, even glove weather if you're walking the strip. Windy, cold.

During the day, it's usually very cool and in the 60's. Sometimes cooler or warmer.

Go to the conservatory @ Bellagio for a great Christmas presentation.. Have a great time! We're going @ thanksgiving and Christmas..can't wait!! STRONG eggnog @ Ellis Island. YUM!!

We always go in December !
The Holidays are presented in a few ways.
Christmas is big and sensational (The Bellagio is a must see) or some palces tone down the green and red and make it more of a seasonal winter theme .
The M and the MGM were decorated with more winter type themes but it still seems a little odd to see large balsam wreaths when the weather is 60 degrees outside.
Some mornings and late evenings get down to the 30's ( which is warm coming from New England) but the days are great. There are great sales before Christmas and the crowds are smaller near the beginning of December.
(After the NRF is done.)
We find that a light sweatshirt is great to wear. It can get warm in the casinos.

It can be either sunny with highs in the 60s or 70s or rainy with highs in the 40s. Check with weather.com a day or two before you leave.

Take your pick. Nov - Feb early March is a grab bag. I've p-layed golf on Xmas day in shorts and a polo and finished a round in late Feb one year in the snow! Long pants and a jacket will get you through. If it really gets cold, stay inside!!!

Good Luck!

December is the only time I go to Vegas Anymore. Lots of ChristmasDecoations, dirt cheap rooms, and tons of casino promotions. Weather can be short sleeve in the day...but its always long sleeve at night.

The only bad thing about December is that many of the entertainment venues go black until after Christmas...but there is still plenty to choose from.
december weather - this comes up often. there is no way to tell what kind of weather you are going to get until it gets closer and you check the ten day forecast.

it could very well be 60 in the day and 30 at night, but that is not always the case. ive been in vegas three times now when it snowed in the day time, so it was not near 60. ive also been there when it was 70 degrees at midnight.

last year, it rained for daysssssssss on end and it was cold and they were predicting flurries every day. i only saw about seven snowflakes total though.

christmas decorations - not so much. bellagio and sams town go all out. the rest may have a tree in the lobby, but not much else. california and barbary coast sometimes paint a tree on their door, i mean im serious about this, christmas is so downplayed in vegas that a painted tree is like all i can remember. if they put the lights on the three in front of caesars last year like they had in years past, i never noticed it.

you will hear christmas music everywhere you go. the cocktail waitresses may have santa outfits on. starbucks will be christmasy, thats about it.

as far as casinos doing anything special - there are a bunch of christmas promotions in the casinos. nothing that spectacular unless you were just dying to win some christmas serving dish. vegas is pretty dead leading up to christmas so the promotions are less to celebrate the holidays and more to get the few stragglers in to play. also, theres a ton of point multiplier days all over the place during that time.

its a great time to be there if you hate crowds and like cheap rooms.
Some great info people!! I don't like crowds and I do like cheap rooms Everyone is right, rooms are pretty cheap around that time.
We'll be there the week before Christmas as well. Haven't been able to go at that time in recent years, but it's awesome! Few crowds, which means great drink service, and the few people that ARe there are in good spirits and friendly. Very few of the "Jersey Shore" crowd who seems to have invaded the Strip over the past 2 years.

Can't wait to get out there for it.

The one time I went in December, I don't remember the weather being all that bad, but it took me awhile to figure out why I was seeing all these guys running around in cowboy hats and boots and C&W music was playing in the casino (I was at the Luxor). Turns out I had picked the week of the rodeo nationals. That was the first I had heard of it. I was staying on a 3 night comp package, so I never saw rooms prices to tip me off to anything big going on that week.
