The greatest punishment for a child is not spanking or grounding, but to threaten to embarrass them. I have a friend who threatens his daughter that if he ever hears of her attending a party where there is alcohol (she is underaged) he will pull an Uncle Buck and show up in a pair of Speedos in front of all of her friends and take her out of there.
