Derek Stevens buys Glitter Gulch, Mermaids and La Bayou

I guess he figured out a way to add a "Resort Fee" type fee to the slots and table games.

Glitter Gulch was always an integral part of my Vegas revitalization plans. Win some money in the casinos, give it back to the strippers. Rinse and repeat.

And one of my all-time favorite nights in Vegas involved a ridiculous 24-oz burger in LVC's diner and a huuuge Everclear Mudslide at Mermaids. It was a night of wretched excess capped by a drunken blackjack session at the Plaza where i literally could not lose. Good times...the parts I remember, anyway.

On the other hand, Derek Stevens has been demonstrably good for Downtown. We should trust that a bigger swing will produce even better results. Here's hoping he stays as lucky as I was that night at the Plaza.
So basically nothing was learned nor will anything get better from the two monopolies on this strip. Now they are making a monopoly of Fremont. Too bad, that is where we spend a decent amount of time. They Are pretty much begging people to stay in their home state casinos at this point. This really is going to turn into California with prices no one can afford, cool kid clubs and rodeo drive. Woot woot. Gee. I may have to move back to my state. We stopped flying much, turned cable off, turned internet off, turned house phones off. They think they have people and we can't live without them. When you take something away. It just makes people realize they can live without it and often it makes life more pleasant.
I personally love the new Golden Gate and D. And let's face it, the spots he just bought up were nothing but places that were in need of a change. Let's see what Derek does with the properties before we get too crazy...we'll all be OK without deep fried twinkies and Oreos.

Stevens may become the Steve Wynn of downtown. Only been in Mermaids and the Bayou a couple of times, never impressed. Funny story about the strip club though. On a summer golf trip a couple of the guys wanted to see the FSE, so a couple of us took them down. When they saw the strip club they talked us into going along. They were strip club junkies. Never a big fan myself, but we went along. Cover was about $15, which gave you two drinks. Not wanting order scotch in a place like that, I figured I could choke down a couple of cheap chardonnays. Wrong! If the dollar store sold white wine, it would taste better than this stuff. Then there's the girls. Not one you'd give a second thought about at last call after a hard night of boozing! The last one took the cake though. Obvious boob job with her nipples pointing out at about 45 degrees. We couldn't stop laughing. When we left I suggested the Vegas Club for sports memorabilia. As we walked in I saw a bartender icing glasses by sticking his fingers inside the glasses and dragging them through the ice! Needless to say, we didn't stay for drinks. Quite the tour of Fremont St.

Good Luck!

It's not about whether or not the properties needed a change, it is about the problem of monopolies not creating any competitive options for the consumer. Look at what mgm has been able to do to the culture of this town with resort fees and now parking fees. One company can dictate and control what happens to the rest of the town. Anyone parking in the strip is using one of two properties. No one is parking there and not spending dollars. Heck, a bottle of water is $5. Therefore almost the price of parking. An ice cream cone, etc. if you are going out you are going to spend something on some kind of need.

As for the cool kids clubs, yes, we really want to attract visitors that want to party like la clubs. Aka I'll pay $20 for a rum and Coke because I'm really cracked out of my head anyway and either trying to find rich people to latch onto and die at 25. So Vegas only wants business men on expenses, foreign tourists or drug addicts. Everyone else might as well stay home.

Again, I keep saying look at Atlantic city. It is no longer a tourist destination. It is just a dying has been. No one needs it anymore. Most states have local casinos now. Gamblers want to use their budget in gambling. This is not Orlando. We don't want a bunch of convention centers with nothingness to do but big boring hotels to sit by a pool. I have never sat by a hotel pool in my life. Not a vacation.
Some of the guys here and maybe some of the gals might like a little more details about the Glitter Gulch. They have no cover charge but they require 2 drinks minimum. It is $22 for two Heinekens that I usually get. Towards the end of Glitter Gulch's run they hired some chunky girls. They would make their asses clap, literally. And some of the girls were in their 40's. There are a couple of blondes there who look like they could be grandmas. However, I'm not complaining here but just providing the facts. Some of my friends complained about the "vultures." That is the practice where the girls would swoop down and try to get the guys to buy a lap dance, sometimes before the guy would receive his drinks. I didn't mind it a bit. Actually I encouraged vulturing and looked forward to chatting it up with the girls. The girls tried to always get me to go to the "VIP" room where they'd quote $100 or $150 for 5 songs or something to that effect. Never done the VIP room. Single lap dances outside the VIP room ran about $25 but some girls inflated their prices to $30 or $40. Depending on my financial situation I get a few dances outside the VIP room. Also, I usually sat at the stage handing out $1 bills where sometimes it lead to getting a face full of breasts. I'm going to miss that place.
Fremont Street NEEDS a so-called" Titti-bar".

Yeah,10 years ago,I got sucked into that place. FREE COVER!
Cool! The ladies were vultures. Agressive ones.
Two Coronas:$17(OMG!). I saved the receipt.

Nothing there tickled my fancy.
Maybe Derek can make it a LOT better.

It's under new management? I'm in.
I like boobies in the face.'Let me take my glasses off, first.'

2 years ago,we did it backwards:Went to the brothels and then went to the topless bars.
My educated guess is that Glitter Gulch and mermaids will be demolished and engulfed by the new resort that will replace the The Vegas Club. I would be extremely surprised if the new resort incorporated a titty club. I would be willing to lay odds that it will not.

Meanwhile, I am told that a semi prominent structural engineering/architecture firm has been wandering around the Vegas Club this last week.

Personally I am excited about all that Derek Stevens is bringing downtown. I liked what Tony Hsieh has been doing but I like Stevens better. He's my kinda guy. Just take a look at one of his executive board meetings.
Executive board meeting
HEY,NOW! That was fun! Board meeting,my ass."Get the dancer with the largest cup size,NOW."
No titti club? WHAAAAAAH!

It's 'Vegas,baby. Disneyland for adults.
Like usual, there will be changes. Go,Derek,go!
