Detroit Lions when will the ball drop?

I've been a Lions fan since the early 60's(don't ask me why I still am). I've watched these guys year in and year out lose big games...maybe it's the Bobby Layne curse. I truly wish that the Ford's would sell this team to someone who has an interest in building a winning team. They had the best running back of all time in Barry Sanders and pissed him away (thanks Bobby Ross). Matt Millen...I won't even go there.

As for the game on Sunday: The Lions played two different games...they played to win in the first half and played NOT to lose in the second half...not how you win big games. The Lions let the game slip away from them in the 2nd half...timid defense, gave up the ground game. They had their opportunities and choked. Punt the ball when it was 4th and 1...winners would have gone for it. If it had been in the 1st half, the way the defense was swarming Romo; I would have agreed with the call...but at that point in the game...you have to go for it. The obvious pass interference was a factor but unfortunately I can't blame that one call for the Lions losing the game.

The NFL has to change it's policy and have a crew of refs that have worked together all season long, continue as a unit to referee these playoff games..having a crew that has not worked together and throw them into a playoff game makes no sense to me.

Wait til next year....I've been saying that for over 50 years. Never thought that I could bring myself to say it, but "Go Pack Go".
Sorry, double post.
There were over 30 officials not assigned any playoff games based on performance, some of these may be slated for termination.

If you used a set crew you could wind up with a weak official doing a playoff game who may be fired

I agree with you. As a game theory aficionado, it irritates me to no end how lame these coaches are in their decision making. And the telecasters are even worse. During this play, the announcer said something along the lines of "since your defense is playing at a high level, it makes sense to punt." No, no, no. If your defense is playing at a high level, it means you can be more aggressive on offense and not scared to go for it on 4th down and 1 yard to go. I've seen so many games where the team that is losing has to play more aggressively and winds up winning the game.

LOLOLOLOLOL

You just won't give up will you Liondown? Your team lost. All the whining in the world won't bring back the shanked punt, the lack of intestinal fortitude in not going for it on 4th and 1, the Cowboys defense snuffing out 2 other drives after the controversial call, etc... lololololol.

Maybe your great-great grandchildren will be able the Lions make some noise in the playoffs. After all, they have won 2 playoff games over the last 50+ years! So if the trend holds that should fall in that appropriate time frame.

The telecast did draw more than 43 million viewers, making it third most watched wildcard telecast in NFL history. I guess you think that was Lions fans propping up those numbers? The Lions were relevant for 3 hours last Sunday. At least take a step back and enjoy the rarified air of a playoff game. Enjoy it! Your moniker "Liondownnow" makes your own statement for you. The Lions have sucked forever as you well know. Its not my fault that they are historically feeble. Use your pent up hatred on more constructive projects. This is all I will say on this matter as I will be focusing on teams still in the playoffs which are far more relevant then hearing somebody constantly grouse about his toothless Lions team losing.

Dude your reading comprehension is weak. I would love to see you quote one excuse or sour grape I posted. It is the NFL and ESPN that keeps reporting on this game. You keep looking foolish by name calling and insulting. Were you a child bully? You are a gem, luckily I know some Dallas fans with class so I will not categorize the fan base as a bunch of Horace Wimp's.
