Dirty Dining: Ellis Island

Here is a video report on the Ellis Island restaurant closure. Warning - this is not for the faint of heart (or stomach)

No one from Ellis Island would go on camera, but we spoke to the casino president on the phone. She said health inspectors came by the restaurant during their quarterly clean-out, which she pointed out they do in addition to regular daily cleaning.

She said they'd unplugged equipment and moved things for cleaning, but inspectors insisted on doing the inspection right then. She called them unreasonable and said the Health District isn't always right, noting that they were re-inspected and re-opened the very next morning with three demerits and an A grade.

This is going to be a major PR problem if they don't act right away.
Yow ! I think I'll be skipping EI this December...at least for food.

Does everybody buy the president's explanation? I don't.
There is NEVER an explanation for a filthy food prep area, as described in that report. No excuses. None.
Suddenly, I don't feel like I've missed out on anything by not stopping in for those much adored ribs I've heard about for so long.
People line up for those ribs. If you like ribs, you can't miss them.
Also, there is no extra charge for the "extras". Enjoy!
It couldn't have been that bad, they passed the next day with an A rating and 3 demrits(which is nothing). Seems to me that perhaps the story was a litle more sensationalized than what was really warranted.
Personally, I've come to grips with and realize that there's no such thing as a "spotless" place to eat and while I have no desire to eat some place that's obviously filthy I never want to become a germaphobe and let run my life. If I started thinking about all the germs that you can come in contact with throughout the day and how they spread exponentially, I'd go crazy and never want to leave the house. I know thats a big knock on buffets with some people but I've never gotten sick from one(knock on wood) so I'll continue to do so. Man if I thought about all the dive places I've eaten throughout my life and not gotten sick, I guess I'm fortunate and suppose I'll continue on my reckless worry-free ways.

Just because it was clean the next day, doesn't mean that everything listed in the story didn't exist. When I watch shows like Bar Rescue, they will usually force a crew to spend the night cleaning up a place. I'm sure there was a lot of shouting and yelling at someone behind the scenes.
