This is the life story of many young black men. A big part of the problem is our failed war on drugs. What if the adults who want to buy these drugs could get them cheaper, cleaner, and quicker at CVS. Then maybe Freddie never gets caught up in the criminal justice system in the first place. Then maybe the gangs and drug cartels lose their path to easy riches. Then maybe we aren't wasting billions on our prisons overflowing with non-violent drug offenders. Maybe.

Umm, . . . not any more. After looting all they wanted they burned the CVS in West Baltimore.

Maybe - the laws should have been better enforced for "low level" offenses and this guy would not have been on the street selling crack --- possibly to your son or daughter.

Legalize pot and the gangs will move on to selling cocaine, meth, and heroin. Per a recent HBO Real Sports episode, the largest growth sector in Heroin use is athletes who move on to heroin from prescription pain pills because on the street the pills cost $35 per pill while heroin is $3 to $5 per bag. So many lives ruined and no easy answers.

More lives are ruined by incarcerating drug users than the drugs themselves. The minute they get the first felony conviction, they are basically on the outside of society forever. How long has our War on Drugs been happening? Are we close to winning? Why do so called conservatives want to control what other ADULTS put in their bodies? It's really none of your business, right? Talk about Nanny State hypocrites. Treat drug addiction as a public health problem and not a criminal justice problem.

As long as it's not being sold to kids and people aren't driving around loaded, why in the world do you want to send them to prison? Because their drug of choice is different than yours?

I tend to agree,I wouldn't go as far as legalizing LSD or any other hardcore drugs that really put you out of your mind, end up with flesh eating zombies that way. There are way too many people in jail for pretty senseless offenses, 6 months for a bag of weed?, come on. Then the record that follows somebody forever, pretty crazy. So yea, Alan's pretty spot on with this post, IMO anyway.

malibber agrees 100% with AlanLeroy!

What is the going rate for professional rioters?

I understand that some cross checking has revealed the same "rioters" showing up in Baltimore, Ferguson, name the city.

Number of people world wide who have ever died from an LSD overdose: 0
Number of people world wide who died from direct effects of Alcohol: 2.5 Million...PER YEAR
Number of people world wide who died from direct effects of Cigarettes: 6.5 Million...PER YEAR.

And yet you drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes and you can become President.
You get caught in possession of LSD and you can go to prison with a felony.
I'm not advocating LSD use. Just pointing out how stupid the War on Drugs is.

Let the people decide what drugs they want to take. If they kill themselves, it was their choice. It's likely better than a life in and out of prison and rehab.....and it's certainly better than me paying for their incarceration when they are only hurting themselves....Just like cigarette smokers and alcoholics. And some of them may be able to actually turn their lives around without the albatross of a criminal record around their necks.

And I don't want to seem heartless. I care about all life. And I know the scourge of drug abuse could kill more people if all illegal drugs were suddenly no longer criminal....just like alcohol probably killed more people after prohibition was repealed. You'd have to change this whole mindset with a plan that everyone buys into. That wouldn't be easy.

But...anyone who can't see alcohol prohibition created more problems than it solved just isn't looking. The war on drugs is 10 times worse.

"Pringles' name is every bit as synthetic as the product in their tubes. When Procter & Gamble introduced the chips in 1968, they needed a name, and the company wanted one that started with a "P."? According to P&G, a brand manager broke out the Cincinnati phone book and made a list of street names that began with the letter. The company liked the ring of Pringle Drive in suburban Finneytown, OH, and since the word was available as a trademark, the chips found their name."
