do you feel safe at the airport?

A truly innocent person most likely would not have climbed the 8ft. barbed wire fence. They would have stayed on the outside and walked the perimeter or stayed there and yelled for help. I know I am not about to climb a fence like that, it spells getting arrested.
I guess if he had gotten hurt on the fence it would have been the airports fault?
It ALWAYS seems to me that we react AFTER the fact! Do you think anyone is going to try and use airliners to attack the USA again? I don't. It just isn't worth the effort to inconvenience the public like they are doing to try and prevent another incident. When and IF they ever pull something again, we won't be prepared for it, and it will be in an area which we haven't protected. These people will attack at a place that isn't protected at all!

You're right. It's totally reactionary.

Agreed.

Western civilization is marked by its public freedoms. Those freedoms leave our safety open to exploit. In any society I hope to live, there will always lots of opportunities for the worst of us to do terrible damage.

That's not to say we shouldn't take care to minimize those risks. But we'll never eliminate them. Not if we want to preserve a society worth living in.

ID checks are worthless and the scanners have issues of their own.

Boarding passes and ID needs to be validated together at the airport. Doing it separately makes the ID check worthless.

Vegas casinos should send private jets to local airstrips... we just walk up, hop in and take off.
