I was reveling at a birthday party just outside of Wyalusing, PA when the news was heard.

I was 8. My brother had a friend who lived across the street who's dad had gone to high school with Elvis and they were still in touch ( I grew up in Memphis) My brother got a phone call sometime in the afternoon. He hung up the phone and said, "Elvis just died." Of course being an 8 year old girl, I wanted to be the first of my little friends with the scoop, so I was ready to monopolize the phone for the rest of the day. Mom said "no, don't call people and tell them that. it's just a rumor" so I didn't. 10 minutes later the news interrupted mom's soap or talk show or whatever was on with breaking news. I have never let Mom forget that she prevented me from being the first one with the news among the incoming 3rd grade class
I was in Nashville, driving back to our hotel from a day at Opryland when I heard the news on the radio. I tried to buy a newspaper the next morning, but they were all sold out.
Working as asst. manager at a Waldenbooks in bumfuk, Ohio
- the manager was a HUGE Elvis fan and I had to hold her for a solid sweaty hour while she weeped...
Didn't you guys get the message? Elvis isn't really dead, it was only a cover up. I see him at my local Costco periodically.
I've always wondered what the world would have been like if his twin Jesse Garon had lived. Would they both have performed?
