Does anyone hear "the hum" in their house?

I have been hearing this constant humming in my house for some time. My wife hears it also. It sounds like an engine running outside somewhere, but the sound can be hear best in the house and it seems loudest at night. We tried turning off the main circuit breaker and water - the sound persists.

Does anyone else have this? My google search seems to indicate, I am not the only one seeing this:

Proceed very carefully.

Could be DonDiego hiding out in the bushes, humming.

Matthew 24:31
"And He shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other."

Perhaps those hearing the sound are "the elect". Congratulations.
DonDiego hopes he's "elected", . . . but his expectations are low.

My neighbors noisy air conditioner makes the only humming sound that I hear. Sorry that I can't be of more help.

I hear a hum. I hear silence only when we experience a power outage.
Possibly your refrigerator.
You might not have thought of this,
but the sound could be coming from a company (generators, etc) up to a few miles away,
especially if the wind is blowing in your direction.

Rick
I agree with Rock'n Rick especially if it seems to get louder at night. The ambient outside noise disappears at night and it is amazing how sound can travel especially if you are near water. I can hear the music from an outside venue about 5 miles away.

When you hear or see things that aren't there, you're experiencing an 'altered reality,' which may be a sign of psychosis.

There are many symptoms of psychosis. The most common ones are:
__Hallucinations: This means you might be seeing, hearing or feeling something that is not there. You might hear voices that sound like real people (not the voice in your head) or see images that other people can’t.

For the record, on occasion poor old DonDiego has thought that he'd heard a diesel-powered truck down the street. Further investigation inevitably revealed a diesel-powered truck down the street.

DonDiego trusts that his research and personal anecdote have given jphelan some peace of mind.

Perhaps noise from a street light, a transformer that needs replacement. Contact your electric company to check it out.
