Does she have a case?

Is this a perfect example about today's kids feel they are "owed" everything in life or are the parents really indebted to their daughter until she completes her education?

One of my best friends went a few round with his girlfriend/wife 's son one time. It was almost identical to this case. He felt he was "owed" his college education and it was the duty of every parent to provide one. I know I sure as hell didn't feel I was owed anything, in fact I paid my own tuition one semester because I totally F'd up one semester(too much partying) and felt I had wasted my parents money and I in fact "owed" them. Didn't have to but I felt I did.

It'll be interesting how this turns out, I'm gonna try and follow.

"A New Jersey teenager claiming that her mother and father tossed her out of their home and cut her off financially is suing them for immediate support, current private-school fees and future college tuition. The parents, meanwhile, say that daughter Rachel Canning, 18, moved out voluntarily after refusing to abide by their rules.
We love our child and miss her. This is terrible. It’s killing me and my wife,” Rachel's father, Sean Canning, a town administrator and retired police officer, tells the Daily Record. “We have a child we want home. We’re not Draconian and now we’re getting hauled into court. She’s demanding that we pay her bills but she doesn’t want to live at home, and she’s saying, ‘I don’t want to live under your rules.’” The rules, he notes, include reconsidering her relationship with a boyfriend who may be a bad influence, being respectful, and abiding by her curfew...."

She has not been abused in any way.

She is old enough to vote, drink, work.

An "adult", she is owed nothing IF the parents have taken a "tough love" approach to parenting. The parents could change the door locks if they choose, and this 18 year old girl could, would, and perhaps should be on her own, entirely.

Anyone of legal age, living under my roof and eating my food, etc, is going to follow my rules. Don't like it, don't live here.

::: shrug :::

I am sure she is a liberal Democrat.
After Bill Maher joked that Donald Trump was half-orangutan...

I am misinformed. I had heard that it was an orangutan who was suing Bill Maher.
She lost in the first hearing
"liberal Democrat" Is there any other kind?? lol
judge denies teens attempt sue parents for money
Good. I think a judge got it right for once and summed it up nicely by saying

"Do we want to establish a precedent where parents live in constant fear of establishing basic rules of the house?” said Morristown Superior Court Judge Peter Bogaard. “Since if they institute a rule that Junior doesn't like, Junior can move out. He can move in with another family, he could sue for child support, attorney's fees, car, cell phone, and a few hundred grand in college.”

Judges get it right almost all the time. It's when they get it wrong that it's in the news and you hear about it.
