DonDiego Advises One Check the GM Recall List

It's a wonderful thing that the Government rescued General Motors. Otherwise who'd be around to handle all the recalls?

[
I saw that there were another 700K cars recalled today. I couldn't help but laugh when I mentioned aloud to my wife that there doesn't seem a week goes by anymore that GM isn't recalling a boatlaod more cars. Are they really that incapable of building a decent car nowadays.?
Recalls are not mandated by law...they are a voluntary action of a company trying to improve the safety of their product. For years Toyota did not recall their cars which provided the false illusion their cars had better quality...and people probably remember how that ultimately turned out. The current GM recall fixes a problem that has not even been proven to be a problem. Perhaps mgmt. believes its better to be safe than sorry. That's a philosophy distinctly different from other corporations I can name....like BP...or Massey Coal....or PG&E just to name a few.

But back to Don Diego's point. I think most Americans bless the GM bailout which when all was said and done amounted to about 3 years worth of subsidies given to the oil industry....or about 2 months of occupation in Iraq. Even the most recent GOP presidential candidate had to finally give the bailout his blessing...even going so far as to say Obama did it the way he (MItt) said he should.

Even Mitt had to confess domestic economic stimulus, sales, and jobs are a tough thing to be against.

(by the way...wasn't GM supposed to be back in bankruptcy by now? I believe that was a prediction made by more than one of our resident conservatives. Lets add that prediction to the other golden eggs regarding inflation, healthcare impacts, minimum wage increases, Bengazhi, etc, etc...)
I wish they'd recall mine. I've had to replace my ignition and my steering is funky. The problem is I have a Chevy Classic. It's exactly like the Malibu (which has been recalled for both of those issues)only it was sold as a fleet vehicle. Hopefully this new round includes mine.

If my memory serves me right, the government fined Toyota over $2 billion on a recall based on a problem that no one actually proved to have resulted in accidents that caused any loss of life. Where is the government fine for GM, whose proven defects cost the lives of more than a dozen people and was purposely covered up for years? They have already recalled more cars this year than they actually manufactured over the last 2 years.

Your deflection to oil company tax exemptions (NOT subsidies) is comical. Oil companies still pay astronomical taxes. Part of the GM bailout exempts them from federal corporate income taxes. If you want an equal comparison, the government would have to exempt oil companies from paying corporate income taxes.
One more reason for government to stay out of the Socialism business. Obama picked and chose the winners in the GM deal, and he's still doing so with GM.

Maybe they have a recall to get people in the dealership,
................... so they can browse the new cars while they wait

........... just a thought

Rick
This is why I didn't buy another Corvette.

Thanks Obama

Hello Mercedes

I've got 3 fairly new vehicles, which all have recall notices on them. 2 on my 2013 chevy van, 1 on my 2012 Town and Country and 2 on my 2013 Durango. All seem to be minor and I'm just waiting for the next oil change to get them taken care of. Seems recalls are the "in thing" this year.

What bugs me is oil change intervals. The van has a read out on % usage, about 8,000 for oil changes (the dealer says every 5,000). The T & C says every 8,000 (the dealer says every 4-5,000). The Durango says wait till it tells you to...first oil change was at 9,300 (the dealer oil change sticker was 3,000). What a racket!
Fortunately, all 3 are from dealers who give you the first 4 oil changes for free.
