DonDiego is part of a burgeoning social movement, . . .

. . . at last !

Call it the Craft Beer Renaissance.

At a time when national beer sales are declining, small and independent breweries have provided a rare bright spot for the industry, growing by nearly 20% in the first half of this year alone.

Regional breweries are opening up at a rate of 1.5 per day, according to the Brewers Association, the trade association representing craft brewers.

The growth has been fueled, in part, by young consumers. Nearly 45% of 21 to 27-year-olds say they have never tried Budweiser, according to AB InBev. [This is a good thing - DD]

Wherever poor old DonDiego travels he makes a point of sampling the local craft brews, . . . and bringing some home with him too.
At the moment his, . . . technically his and teechur's, . . . refrigerator is stocked with lots of samples from the The Party Source 'cross the Ohio from Cincinnati and Spec's on Galveston Island:
__Convict Hill Oatmeal Stout - Austin, TX [dark - OK]
__Founder's Breakfast Stout3 - Grand Rapids, MI [dark Coffee/Chocolate/Oatmeal - Very Excellent]
__Founder's Curmudgeon Ale - Grand Rapids, MI [very dark Aged Ale brewed with Molasses - Extraordinary Super Best-Ever Excellent Beer]
__Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout - Lexington, KY [dark - Extra Very Excellent]
__Real Ale Coffee Porter - Blanco, TX [moderately dark - Very Good]
__Saint Arnold's Ale Wagger - Houston, TX [medium - Very Good]
__Saint Arnold's Christmas Ale - Houston, TX [medium -Very Excellent]
__Zeigen Bock Amber - Houston, TX [medium - Good (now owned by Anheiser Busch)]

DonDiego is pleased to be part of this movement away from watery, light, ordinary piss-tasting beer to something really really special. He's never been part of a movement before; he sorta likes it. And it includes drinking adult beverages !

He invites everyone to join him.
Ahh. There is actually something in the world Don Diego and I would not argue about. I see some Founders on that list.

I suggest everyone seek and imbibe the Founder's Old Rasputin Imperial Stout . I drive 35 minutes every Saturday to have one in downtown Indy. I'm considering moving downtown just to be closer to it. ITS THAT FRIGGIN GOOD
DonDiego has been impressed by the prevalence of craft beers in/around the upper Mid-West, . . . especially compared to heh' in Appalachia.

In fact the first time he discovered the pleasures of Founder's beverages was when he was in Indianapolis last year to see an NFL game. He purchased a variety of 4-packs at the Crown Liquors store at the corner of North Delaware and West Ohio in downtown Indianapolis.
Then teechur and DonDiego dined at the Indianapolis Colts Grill and watched Auburn defeat Alabama on the last play of the game, before walking around the Soldiers and Sailors Monument all decked out for Christmas.

Indianapolis seemed a pretty nice place; of course it was during the Christmas Season.
Did DonDiego possibly enjoy the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout while visiting Malone's Steakhouse in Lexington, Kentucky? I enjoyed two such beers while in Lexington on business a month back.

The beer was quite magnificent, and my favorite beer choice in years.

Next time you are in town I suggest you go to the "End of the Line Public House" in the FOuntain Square area of Indy...its only about a mile from the downtown circle. I think Don Diego would delight in the selection they have on tap...as well as the old school art deco surroundings. I promise not to show up so as to ruin the experience =)
Can DonDiego please describe how "ordinary, piss tasting beer" actually tastes? Since I have never tasted piss, I have no reference point.
Many years ago, I would find myself in Columbia, MD on business. There was at that time a bar called
"The Last Chance Saloon" that had 57 beers on tap many of which were craft beers.
I used to enjoy the sampler of 3 or 4 different craft beers & trying to decide which was my favorite. I don't know if the place is still in business.

DonDiego isn't sure where he ingested the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel first; it might've been Cincinnati.

But he did treat himself to a 4-beer flight [sampler] at the downtown-Lexington "Saul Good Restaurant and Pub", which included a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Amber Ale and a Country Boy Shotgun Wedding.
DonDiego'll have to try Malone's sometime; he'll be passing through Lexington again on his way to some of the five remaining NFL Stadia which he has not visited.

It's all good.

Umm, . . . try "Bud Lite", . . . or even better "Schlitz" or "Piels", if they've still got that in Philadelphia.

FYI the local radio station has a show called the brews brothers on at 3:00pm on saturdays. 1290 am and 95.7 fm WHIO. Part of the I-heart network....
