doomsday talk

Dark star crashes, pouring its light into ashes.
Reason tatters, the forces tear loose from the axis.
Searchlight casting for faults in the clouds of delusion.
Shall we go, you and I while we can
Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds?

Mirror shatters in formless reflections of matter.
Glass hand dissolving to ice petal flowers revolving.
Lady in velvet recedes in the nights of goodbye.
Shall we go, you and I while we can
Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds

This particular theory was played out in the media waaay back in the 1980's. Ever hear of a comic book called the Micronauts??linky

William James coined the word 'multiverse' in 1885. I'm thinking more along the lines of M theory where our universe and others are created by collisions in a space with 11 and 26 dimensions.

You make creationism sound just as viable.
I had to go Google:

In theoretical physics, M-theory is an extension of string theory in which 11 dimensions are identified. Because the dimensionality exceeds the dimensionality of superstring theories in 10 dimensions, proponents believe that the 11-dimensional theory unites all five string theories (and supersedes them). Though a full description of the theory is not known, the low-entropy dynamics are known to be supergravity interacting with 2- and 5-dimensional membranes.

This idea is the unique supersymmetric theory in eleven dimensions, with its low-entropy matter content and interactions fully determined, and can be obtained as the strong coupling limit of type IIA string theory because a new dimension of space emerges as the coupling constant increases.

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout. Supergravity...and Micronauts.
My DonDiego is a scientist and sticks to facts. I am not. I'm not ashamed to say I believe in God....however, I am VERY uncomfortable arguing with people about religion. Although I have no scientific explanation for my beliefs, I believe in science and God!!! My beliefs hurt no one... I do not push them on others...

"Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish." Albert Einstein

btw...I for one am happy to have (hopefully) many more years of earthly existence to go! Especially if I can watch my Arizona Cardinals go to the Superbowl again or kick DonDiego's butt at miniature golf again!

This conversation made me think about that scene in animal house where the kid gets stoned for the first time with his prof(played by donald sutherland, karen allen is in the scene also i think) and starts getting a little freaked out when thinking about how big the universe can be.
"you mean to tell me.there could be an entire universe in my fingernail? OH MY GOD........."

All this conversation about string theory confuses me.

Yet, I do know that..........................

if I pull a few strings, I may get it.

::: shrug :::

Oh Pooh!

Hey, . . . all DonDiego intended in his initial post on this matter was to suggest that atomic/nuclear explosions were insufficient to destroy all matter as we know it. Now it's degenerated into a God vs Physics debate. [n.b. If the God vs Physics debate is settled on a Las Vegas Advisor Forum, DonDiego will eat his hat.]

DonDiego's been around long enough that when he was an adolescent the big debate in physics was: Is the Universe expanding or contracting or static? Nobody knew nothin' 'bout black holes, and dark matter and dark energy hadn't been conceived. When poor old DonDiego considers all those Summer hours he spent reading science books instead of pursuing the town doctor's daughter, . . . well, . . . it just brings up thoughts of the road not taken. But DonDiego digresses . . .

Anyway, physics describes things as best it can. And it seems likely to DonDiego that God, . . . if indeed there is a God, . . . is quite capable of working within the Laws of Physics if/when he chooses to destroy the Earth, or, even, the Universe. Or not, since He invented the Laws of Physics it's entirely up to Him how they work and if they work. DonDiego doesn't necessarily see an inherent contradiction in God and Physics.

Oh, and although DonDiego is reluctant to embrace the doctrine of any religion, . . . after all he might choose the wrong one with unpleasant consequences, . . . he remains open to the possibility of an all-knowing, all-powerrful Creator and/or Destroyer. DonDiego harbors no aversion to hedging his bets. So, just in case, he has instructed teechur to do her best to facilitate a deathbed conversion to Catholicism when DonDiego's demise is imminent.

Hmmmm, . . . DonDiego must examine this "String Theory" more closely . . .
