Downtown bums

Hi Roadtrip - Wow you're really alot more prepared than we ever could be, and your answers are very humorous. We just want to be out there having fun and not be approached. We have certain charities that we donate regularly. The only time we give to anyone downtown is the guy in the wheel chair with the little dog. He doesn't ask or approach - we go to him.

Keep quoting the 4th amendment of the Constitution. It will make you sound official and crazy. A sure fire way to ward off panhandlers.

"Pssst.... COPS", while rapidly looking around in a paranoid way and said in a whisper also works really well.

Walmart? Thats the expensive stuff, I only buy at Value City and K-Mart for my Vegas clothes. I got my walking shorts on sale for $5.00.
The worst bums that hassle me are the people that try and get to to sign up for time share. I'll tell them I'm not interested and, later on I'll pass by there again and get hassle again. Some will take the message, but others will not take no for an answer.

BTW- Cafe Cortez has an expanded menu late nights. Not a full menu, but a far cry from last winter when you had your choice of three or four items.
That's good to hear. I prefer to do my gambling at the El Cortez after midnight. More free entertainment (people watching)..

If you want to see the Vegas homeless, just stroll down Main Street from Main Street Station to Jerrys Nugget. They have a mile long homeless encampment. A lot of them have tents, so I guess they technically have tent homes without addresses. Some of them are tentless though. Those people have plenty of cardboard. I think a lot of them are too far off the deep end to panhandle effectively.
I agree, to me as a tourist that's the most homeless-intensive part of the city. Fortunately, it's highly unlikely tourists will encounter that area beyond from within a car or a bus.

I always visit downtown, and I never have a problem with panhandlers. If they ask for something, I politely decline, and that's it. Probably helps that I don't appear wealthy, though I do pretty well.
