Downtown Grand

i am trying my luck with the DG again in May. they sent me some "free" room offers again. when I asked for a fri/sat the agent said no free room but a $69 rate was available. fair enough I guess for a weekend, but they have a $20 a night resort fee. she insisted I would NOT be charged a resort fee so I booked it. I was, or still am skeptical. at most places that I have had free rooms the fee was waived as well, but not when I pay a reduced rate. I have stayed there before and it is a nice hotel, 2nd only to the GN downtown. $69 + $20 would still not be too bad for a weekend. I know they have been going through constant changes since they opened. I would love to hear some feedback from anyone who has stayed there recently.
I haven't stayed there recently but I'm guessing at the discounted rate would include the $20 resort fee per night. Let us know. As for myself, I have not received any other free room nights from them. I reinstalled the app hoping to find some free rooms on it but no luck there either.
Let us know if they give you a good funbook with that resort fee. I've stayed at the DG three times....all three in the first 2 years of its opening. Anything over $75/night is too much. You can score Cabana Suite rooms cheaper than that which are about the same quality.
PJ, are there Cabana Suites with two beds? Thanks.

Don't think so....but you can ask for a cot =)
I stayed on comp at the Grand in January and February and really enjoyed it. I love being away from the noise of Fremont Street. The Grand is small but not very crowded which is fine for me. It is very clean on the gaming floor as well as the room. I would have asked them to email a confirmation of your $69 rate with a comment that stated "no resort fee", that might give you a fighting chance. I would be skeptical otherwise.
The rooms in the El Cortez tower have two beds and are every bit as nice as the Cabana Suites. A bit bigger, too.
Downtown Grand's CEO shown the door. It's a little out-dated news but new to me. Downtown Grand seems to be having a tough go at things.

You posted in March the DTG room offer, planning a May stay.
I looked for your TR back a few months, but didn't find it.
Did they keep their promise of the room rate and waive the resort fee?
My deluxe room for 2 nights were comped and NO resort fee, last year.
Single king bed and it was a corner room.
The "fun book" wasn't that good. The room was GREAT!

I didn't do enough gambling to get any comp room offers since.
Played 8/5 bonus VP.
Randomy picked me for the whirlwind of cash. Snagged $133,wheeee.
yes, the room rate was honored with no resort fee. the fun book was ok. I really like the standard 2-bed room. I stayed again in May for 2 free nights, everything went well. I am booked again in August for 2 free nights. I love watching the cash machine contestants. the place is never really busy, so you actually have a decent chance of your name being drawn. the bartender scolded me for playing .25 cent keno, she said I have to play a $1 minimum to get the draught beer comped. oh well. I always have horrible luck on the BJ tables in that joint. overall the place seems to have improved and I hope they continue to send me good offers. the rooms are just right, I like the pool when it is not crowded. I would love to stay there again and again for "free" or cheap. the William hill sports book seems to get some business too.
