Downtown Grand

I just read a brief article which mentioned that this one year old casino is struggling.

What's the scoop? Is it too far removed from Fremont Street to succeed, or was the casino/hotel poorly done? I was hoping that this joint was going to be a grand success.
It is a nice property and our room was very modern and clean. I liked being away from the Fremont Street noise when it was time to sleep. That being said, it is like being at an off strip casino like the Rio. The walk to the Fremont Street strip is not really far yet I think it is far enough to discourage people from walking down to visit.
I thought DTG was very nice. It's a classy place with downtown gambling. Perfect for classy but cheap guy like me.

Snidely makes a few bucks shorting oil and all of a sudden hes got class...

While I was staying DT last spring I toured the DTG. The casino was nice and clean as a new one should be. I checked restaurants as I could, but nothing impressed me. I went to the players club and got a card which included $5 free play. I walked around looking at VP, but found pay schedules weren't very good. I loaded the FP, lost it and left. It stands to reason that if VP pays aren't good that slots also don't pay well. With those two factors against you it would be hard for a new place to do well, especially with that location. Now if they had opened with good pays, that location might have been a plus.

Good Luck!

They had trouble for awhile getting anyone into the casino. Golden Nugget can get away with having crappy video poker because its a 4 star property....Downtown Grand cant. They've since fixed that problem by making the casino more player friendly. The crowd was noticeably better on my September visit than my previous 2.

But even so - if you aren't a guest at the hotel there is nothing particularly worthwhile beyond what the other Fremont St casinos offer...

The best thing they have going for them is the pool area which (Golden Nugget aside) is the nicest of any place downtown. They've done some things to highlight the pool but if I were them I would double down on that effort....spend some more money on the pool and make it really fancy.
Never stayed there, but I liked gambling there. Clean and new casino and bright and modern.

It was one of the darkest casinos that I've encountered in the downtown area. I prefer the Four Queens or MSS which are much better lit. I dropped by on 11/30 which was the last day of a promotion where they would match free play from other casinos if you showed a mailer. I received $300 in FP and cashed out for $100. Since I've returned, they've sent me an offer for another $300 FP but no room offer. I'll use it if I can get there before it expires in mid-March.
I was there in January and the casino floor was very nice. Not a lot of people were there and the video poker schedules were brutal.Did not bother to sit down.Seems that they have changed some of the pay schedules and I will give them another look in January.
Stayed there on a free 2 nights comp last summer. Had played there on a previous stay downtown and got the offer on the mail. Rooms OK nothing special was in the rooms across the street not sure I would like my girlfriend walking back to the room alone after 9 at night. The casino was OK had an odd mix of games should have had more low BJ tables. Had one $5, one $10 with people playing then $25 and $50 with only one person playing, had several carnival game ( three card poker, Texas holdum) with no one playing why not switch the $50 or carnival game to $5 BJ? Wanted to play baccarat but table was always closed or had reserved sign on it with dealer sitting there???? Restaurants, they had several that were not open and looked like they were open at one time but not now ( not enough business??) We used our meal comp in coffee shop just so-so on service and food( hard to talk bad about free food).
