Downtown news and a little TR

Went to Vegas two weekends ago. The trip was very similar to most of our trips so I will mention the differences.

Our usual mode of transportation was booked so I decided to drive. Yeah, anyone can make a bad decision.
I am planning on turning my Tesla in for the guarantee buy back and still have quite a few miles left so off we go on a 300 mile trip in an electric car. I made the trip once before when I first bought the car, it's perfectly doable.

We had planned to leave in the middle of the morning on Thursday. Well, the wife had trouble getting out of the office and we didn't leave till 3:30pm. Should have waited. Traffic was a nightmare, the whole way.
Had to spend an hour in Barstow to recharge. There's a station next to a Chili's. I cannot recommend the restaurant, slow service and mediocre food.
Back in the traffic. Was worried about the electrons all the way to downtown so we stopped in Primm for a fifteen minute charge. What a pain in the butt.

So now for the news....or should I say deductions based on rumors.

Most folks here know that Derek Stevens bought the Las Vegas Club along with the rest of the block. He also acquired Le Bayou slot parlor in the deal. The old Vegas Club is closed up tight with all the doors and windows now advertising the Golden Gate Casino. The LVC parking garage is closed and barricaded but not "sealed", it already has a homeless camp in it.
Glitter Gulch, Mermaids and Le bayou are still open. I believe they will all stay open for the foreseeable future as they all turn a little profit.

I talked at length with many management level employees and the rumors are all over the place in regards as to what is going to be done with the place. I even met with Derek Stevens himself. However, it was midnight and he was buying drinks for folks at the bar and didn't seem interested in talking business (and neither did I as there were free fancy drinks to be had). There is no official plan for the properties and no coherent rumor either. My thought is that there is no current plan at all.

Refurbishing the place is going to be a royal pain in the ass. Asbestos, lead, outdated wiring, sub code fire protection. It won't be a simple slap of paint and rebranding.
There is a lot of potential in that corner of Fremont street but I don't see anything happening anytime soon.
I'm quite certain that I earlier read that the Stevens brothers plan to tear down the entire Las Vegas Club casino hotel, and build a new place from scratch. Are you saying that current Stevens employees are expecting something different?
Thanks for the report. I read Glitter Gulch, Le Bayou and Mermaids were closing at the end of June. The longer Las Vegas Club is closed, the harder the refurb will be. I imagine Fitzgerald's and Golden Gate had similar issues with asbestos, lead, wiring...etc. My suggestion is to turn the Vegas Club rooms into Party Rooms....Like knock out walls and make 3-4 old rooms into one Party room. Have most rooms sleep 8-10 people with 3 bathrooms and target groups...like Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties....and other rooms become huge Party Suites that sleep 2-4. Please pass that on to Derek next time you're boozing it up with him.

If he doesn't like that one, maybe suggest it become a resort for 'big' people. Call it the "Biggest Loser Spa and Casino" and cater to the morbidly obese. Oversize everything...chairs, doors, beds....and offer weight loss classes and menus for those who want to change their lifestyles. Of course he may not be thrilled with 'Biggest Loser' for a Casino Name, but maybe he could just call it the 'B'.
Yes,only one more month to say good bye.

More construction.This time,down town!
OK,we will see what happens.

I liked your earlier idea of a Sci-Fi based resort. Not necessarily 'Star trek' or Star Wars' but Sci-Fi in general. The Stevens weren't in Vegas in Stupak's day so maybe they don't know what a flop it was.

From the first press release I really thought there was a plan. However, no matter how many reports or stories you read there has only been that one press release. It's been silence since then.

Second hand (might even be third hand) information on the engineering inspection of LVC property is that it was cancelled before it was completed. That does not bode well for any timely refurbishment or re-opening.

They might end up doing something similar to Binions in the short term - which is to say open the casino but not the hotel.

My idea: Currently the best buffet downtown is the mediocre one at MSS. It wouldnt be that hard to pursue and claim the best buffet downtown. Go for that and let the players chase the comps for it in the casino
