Downtown Vegas hotel prices

Before I booked my free night at the Golden Nugget, it was sold out. I checked the El Cortez, as I want to spend more time in the Fremont St. East area, and they want $185 fully loaded cost. I'm now booked at the Plaza at $127 out the door.

There's some fight in town this weekend, from what I understand. Rooms are cheap last night and tonight, and expensive tomorrow.
I'll assume that you checked the MSS and the GG.
It REALLY depends on when you want to be there.
The MSS website is totally clogged up. The wires are burning.
Rugby tournament might also be affecting availability.
There was also a series of desert auto races outside of Primm. When I arrived downtown Friday morning, off of those fars were lined up nose to tail on Fremont in the East Entertainment district. I talked to some folks who briefly met Jay Leno downtown Friday afternoon. He raced in one of the lower classes.

LARGE convention tomorrow.
Seems like you really need to pick your dates carefully.

4/24 to 4/27 National broadcasters:103,000. No,I won't go then.
It's all about supply and demand.
I won't go on a week end=automatic price increase.
Normally when I go to Vegas for non-Labor Day trips, I look at the convention schedule and look for other major events. Since this trip was for a convention, I didn't have any flexibility. Actually, I could have gone a day earlier, but then I would have been hungover for day one of business, and that wasn't going to happen. It had to be Friday night to make sense.

I don't bet big, but did manage to net a $250 win at the Cortez. It was enough to cover my personal expenses for my extra night's stay. It was fun, but without buddies along something was missing.
