Downtown Wifi

MSS will no longer have free Wifi - I read this - then got it firsthand straight from MSS. Now it is $9.99 per 24 houts - per device! Not per room. As my wife and I both use out cell phones for email, plus I use my laptop in the evenings for business - this is a major issue. We are staying 5 nights at New Year but it may be the last time.

Is there a Starbucks or some other place nearby?
The Beat coffee shop on Fremont - much better than Starburnt. Free wifi for customers. I always stop in for a triple shot americano on the way to El Cortez....
No Starbucks with free wifi and the D closed the donut shop. Will definitely check out The Beat - didn't know about that one.

I once grabbed a microbrew at the 777 and walked over to the tables near the players card area at Main Street Station.

I have a stupid phone, but don't smart phones work on reception available by your provider everywhere, not reliant on wifi hotspots or points of access in hotel rooms? As to the laptop, get an aircard. I've been using one as my only internet connection when I'm not accessing a network at a work location for more than 7 years. I haven't had a hard wired internet connection at home for almost that long. Anyone who travels a lot should be using an aircard. The "free" access in hotels is too vulnerable to hacking (1st hand knowledge).

Unfortunately the mss free wifi was being abused, I think they wanted it for mss guests but because word got out everyone downtown was going there to use the free wifi. Sometimes (like a starbucks) that area was packed with people using the free wifi. I used the free wifi to check in and use the net (never use unsecured connections to read my emails or anything with my cc).

Tonyrob, has the wifi already been cut off or will it be cut off at a certain date? Just wondering.

rats, now I'm going to have to go elsewhere to use the wifi.

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me, I've been and go to different places that have wifi with no charge to everyone there, just have to give a password and pin. Those are changed on a pretty constant basis to avoid abuse. Seems like an easy enough solution than gouging the hell out of your customers all in the name of avoiding "abuse". Ten bucks PER day PER device!!?? F THAT!!, would be the last time I stayed there outta principal.

The loss of the free wifi is a shame. Just another example of freeloaders abuse.
The wifi will be cut off this weekend.
My phone is Canadian so if I pickup email or make calls using that in the US I am killed with roaming fees - I got one last year in Potland for $5.00 a minute.
