Driving Denver to Las Vegas around Jan13 give or take a couple of days?

I have been on here talking about getting a new car. it looks like the broker secured a good price for me out of Denver. I could have the car shipped here for bet. $600 and $700>More than the money I am more concerned with my personal safety. I am a good driver and lived for Seattle for many years before moving to LAs Vegas
Have not driven in ice and snow for a long long time. I hear it is about an 11 or 12 hr drive . I would have no problem stretching it not a couple of days. I know that one highway can get me from their to here. I would welcome all comments on making a mid Jan. between the 2 points. Thank you in advance, Jazzlover
Not for the faint of heart. Well worth the money to ship it. Remember to factor in the cost of getting to Denver, the cost of getting to and from the airport, motels, gas and meals. Picking it up in Vegas or having it delivered to your house is well worth it. If it were the summer, it would be a different story.
On another forum, we are following the plight of a moron who left NE last week, bound for California and who took the northern route because he had already done Rt 40 and thought it would be an adventure. Its day 5 and he is heading south finally.
Jazz, im glad the auto broker worked out well for you.

My 2008 purchase through an auto broker involved crossing state lines and it was shipped to my office. I turned down a trip to Las Vegas to pick it up, unbelievably. Lol
Willy Billy, when are you going to prove me wrong, and get through at least one post without an insult? Just once would be entertaining.

Just out of curiosity, what would you call a person who had to be in LA by Jan 2, and who knowingly drove into one of the worst storms in the last few years, rather than take the southern route because he'd already done that?
Right now you can get a real cheap one-way flight from Las Vegas to Denver on the 13th. You can even get a refundable ticket on Frontier for less than $150 that includes baggage fees and premium seating. That ticket will let you cancel if it looks like road conditions are not what you'd feel comfortable driving.

There's no way to know what the weather will be then. I-70 to I-15 could be bone dry the whole way. It is an incredible drive with amazing scenery. I've driven that route to Las Vegas a few times, including in the winter. CDOT does a great job of keeping the highways clear even when there is snow...the ski resorts need people to be able to get to them! That also isn't the only route from Denver to Las Vegas that is primarily Interstate highways. You can also take I-25 south to Albuquerque and I-40 west from there. It's a longer drive, but easily doable in 2 days. I've driven that route too. You can also run into snow on that route in January, but blizzards in Flagstaff probably aren't as frequent as they are in Vail.
In that scenario, you are looking at $30 taxis, $150 ticket, let's say $120 for two nights in hotels, call it $50 in meals and another $50 in gas at a minimum.
A net savings of under $200. You can make that up in a weekend driving for Uber.
I'm not sure about today's cars, but is a 1000 mile mountain drive the best thing for a new drive train?
If there is snow, don't they require chains in the passes?
I'm prejudiced, because after escaping Long Island winters, I hope never to drive in snow again. Others mileage may vary.
I suppose some will think of it as an adventure.
Through June on Spirit and Frontier, you can fly non-stop one way to Denver for $82 on Tuesday's and Wednesday's. 7 days advance notice.

For $25 more you can do this flight on United.
Billy, when I was 19 years old I drove from Chicago to Salt Lake City to go skiing. It was December and I hit an ice storm in Nebraska and Wyoming on I-80. I drove 27.5 hours, only stopping for McDonald's and to visit a restroom. This was after working a 55 hour week, including 5 hours immediately prior to the drive. It was "worth it" to me at the time.

Unless you know Jazzlover well, you have no idea what's important to him. You have no idea what worth and value he places on certain things. He may have a lifelong dream to see the Rockies with snow. He may love to drive and see the country. I don't have a clue, and I'm guessing that you don't either.

Actually Jazz told the board that he (or she) is concerned about personal safety. ... And also that he or she welcomed all comments.
