E cigarettes proliferation

What is up with these e-cigarettes proliferation? I've seen people smoking it in airports, restaurants, bars, etc. Are these things safe? Have any of you tried it? If it can help someone to quit more power to them.
I thought the appeal of was no second hand smoke so safer for people not smoking them.
Those e-cigs deliver nicotine without any additives other than nicotine and (I believe) something called glycexxxxx? which the nicotine is mixed with.

They (allegedly) are "healthier" than regular cigarettes in that those pesky tars, etc are missing, and since they are vaporizers, there is no second hand smoke, or odor emanating from them.

I have a couple, and do use them on occasion.

Whether they will actually help me to quit entirely will be something to wait and see. I do know I've not had much success quitting cold turkey, or with the patch.

They definitely help me go longer periods without a real cigarette burning, so I do consider it a smoking cessation aid, and cigarette substitute.

I hate second hand smoke, so I love these. Best thing since sliced bread. I hope it is the wave of the future!!!!!

I actually think it is getting more young folks to try smoking. Not the effect it was intended for. In FL they advertise Vaping in the Cape ad nauseam on the radio. It is the new "cool" thing to do. They offer the e cigs with different flavors and many with no nicotine.

Road trip as for quitting I used the Chantix but until you're really ready to quit nothing will help.Good luck
Full disclosure here, I was a smoker myself for 8 years. I smoked Kool milds averaging one pack a day or more. I had quit in 1992 and never had another cigarette since then. I had quit cold turkey. It wasn't easy but I did it partly to save money and mostly because my breathing was getting more difficult (ie, coughing, wheezing, spitting yellow phlem, etc.). The habit was hard to break. While quitting I constantly found myself reaching into my shirt pocket intending to grab a cig only to realize my shirt pocket was empty and no cigs existed in my pocket. The hardest part was waking up in the morning and having coffee without smoking a cig. That combination was the best smoke of the day followed by having a smoke after meals. I'm glad I quit though and that's one of the best things I have done for my health. When I see others smoking I know how hard it is to quit.
Congratulations on quitting, Surf87. That is no small accomplishment.

Our hospital maintains the same policy for e-cigarettes as for 'real' cigs, which is to forbid their use inside the building. They are not healthier, they do deliver nicotine.

My husband smoked 2 packs/day, quit with Nicorette gum, to his own amazement. That's been at least 15 years ago.
e-cigarettes are for wimps. Give me a Camel regular any day....

Am hoping they prove safe, as they solve a lot of smoker vs non-smoker conflicts. But as previously reported by moi on this thread there might be some safety questions. Anyone heard any updates on this issue?
Article today in our newspaper: more youth taking up smoking since they (the e-cigs) are permitted in some restaurants, bars etc.. The health pros and cons, still under study. They deliver nicotine, which is the addictive substance, so not likely to be "healthy" in that regard.
