They always try to score. The officials missed the illegal bat in the end zone! That would have given the Lions the ball at the one. With all this fancy replay and as many officials that are on the field how do ALL OF THEM MISS THIS?
Bad calls are part of the game, seems Seattle has had some "nice" calls go their way on Monday nights

Until last night, it seems like the NFL officials kind of got their act together. When one of them made a bad call, many times there would be a conference held and they would pick up the flag. There was no excuse for last night. The ref even had his eyes on the ball when it was batted.

It was speculated that he didn't do anything because it was the end of the game or because he didn't know the rule.

RM, if he does not know that rule he should be let go! I officiated high school for better than 15 years and I knew that rule plain and simple. Speculation on this might well be what happened but you would hope at that level they should have at least concurred and had a conference with each other.

It is a fast game and much can be missed. It will never be perfect. Just bad for the Lions who really needed a win.

I had an NFL referee as a speaker for a quarterback club in the 90's. None of the refs are full time, but get paid a good salary. They also get to travel first class air and are put up in suites. They are graded by the head office after each game. Generally after the season is over, the ones that graded in the bottom 10% are let go. They do have a Sunday morning quiz on rules. I don't know if this particular rule was ever covered.
By not reviewing so-called "judgement calls"the NFL can dictate the winner - the Seacheats have been the recipient of these "judgement calls" on numerous occasions.

Sorry Doc, I'm not a Seahawks fan, but a New England fan (you) calling any other team "cheaters" is hypocritical.
It seems like another play that is a "judgement" and still allowed to be reviewed is when a quarterback is attempting to pass a ball and then fumbles. The referee on the field makes a "judgement" about the ball being thrown forward or not. That "judgement" can be over turned by replay.

Roulette Man- let me make it simpler for you; this "judgement call" was not a "judgement call" - it was and is an official rule. To call it a "judgement call" is a lie, according to rules. The ONLY reason this travesty is being allowed is to keep the Seacheats in contention. By the way, I never said the Patriots were not cheaters, my statement about the Seacheats stands on it's own and has NOTHING to do with the Patriots. Understand now?

Yes Sir. I hope Ellen and I didn't kill any of your lawn, when we were out there the other night.

Watching the Eagles and the Lions every weekend is like taking a trip here every weekend:

And still...The Eagles are just a single game out of first in the NFC East.
Poor old Dallas. Injuries have hit them hard and they have some very tough games coming up.

There's only one constant in all those years and it's team ownership.
