Earl Scruggs R.I.P.

Another legend is gone. "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" is one of my all-time favorite pieces of music. Lester Flatt died in 1979, I believe.
My favorite Flatt and Scruggs song...The Ballad of Jed Clampet!

RIP Earl
Earl and the gang had a weekly radio program on our station in the late 1940s when Granddaddy Blade ran the radio station.

Found Foggy Mountain Breakdown on youtube after I played that link for the Jed Clampett ballad. I hadn't heard Foggy Mountain Breakdown in many years. Brought a smile to my face. Even though I grew up with mostly rock music, I always liked instrumental bluegrass, but not the nasal sounding vocals that went with some of it. I do like the Jed Clamppet ballad though. Fond memories of watching the show as a kid.
RIP. Tried "Scruggs" style, 3 finger pick (as opposed to clawhammer) 5 string banjo when young because of him and his sound. Lots have tried, some have come close, but the original will be missed.
