Climate science as we know it today did not exist. We had long term weather forecasting which was handled via press release. Anyone who lived in that era understands this simple fact. That is why those who pull out the old "it wasn't in peer reviewed literature" lie are being completely dishonest. And, nothing they say can be trusted. Now, lets look at some references from the press where the topic was actually discussed:

Wow, that's a lot of stupid in just two links.
Arc's first source is edited by "Andrew," as in Andrew-No-Last-Name, who claims to be a computer analyst . Can't you just smell the climate science credibility? But it get's better. To prove his case, Andrew's "references" (yes, he uses that word) include the Tri City Herald, the Ludington Daily News, and the Beaver Country Times.
Well, if you can't trust the Beaver Country Times, who can you trust?
Like many of Arcimedes' sources, the second link has a PayPal button soliciting donations to help with blogging expenses and an anonymous writer. And it cites the Mountain Mail, Time Magazine, and similar, as if they are scientific journals, probably because Arcimedes and his other readers can't tell the difference.
Disagreeing with Arc's stellar sources is every major scientific organization in the world, and 2,257 out of 2,258 peer-reviewed climate articles (11/12 to 12/13). And an American Meteorological Association and NOAA report on The Myth of the 1970s Global Cooling Consensus. Anyone who cannot immediately identify who has credibility on this issue and who does not should not drive a motor vehicle or operate machinery. Read the Beaver Country Times instead!
