Ebola - What Should the Gubmint Do?

"In terms of preventive actions, the poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates, finds near-unanimous support (91 percent) for stricter screening of incoming passengers from Ebola- affected countries in Africa. Two-thirds support restricting entry of such individuals into the United States."

DonDiego finds himself situated in the appropriate demographic for himself - the 20% White, male, post-Graduate, upper-middle class - which is, in fact, the least "worried" about catching ebola. Nonetheless, he favors travel restrictions as indicated above, . . . just so's he can remain among the unworried.

DonDiego finds the repetitive Government statements that he should not be concerned about Ebola getting into America, . . . or, if it were to get in, not to worry about Ebola being transmitted within America less than convincing, . . . especially since it did get in and it has been transmitted.
Instead, DonDiego suggests the Government stick to facts and/or the truth and take some steps to retard Ebola arriving/spreading.

Oh, and in addition to restricting travel to/from West Africa, . . . DonDiego suggests the potential of disease transmission might be retarded by a more secure Southern Border.
Why, . . . if'n poor old DonDiego was one o' them there Islamistical Terrorists he'd be looking' at getting' some o' that E-bola cross the border. If'n he was real dedicated he might even infect hisself and walk right into McAllen, Texas or El Paso an' hobnob with the locals 'til he took sick, . . . and them too. If'n he was less dedicated he might just box up some o' them there fruit bats in Africa a-carryon' E-bola, and take 'em 'cross the Atlantic, and release 'em along the border; there's millions [billions?] of fruit bats all over the American Southwest/Mexican border Counties liven' in caves and such, . . . and they's always happy to bite, say, beef cattle or household pets or even just plain old folks.
Psst, . . . DonDiego recommends the reader not pass these idle ruminations along to any Muslim friends, . . . jes' in case.
Over 17m watched the Walking Dead on Sunday, the largest audience ever for a scripted cable show
The more the govt. tells me not to worry the more I worry( not that I'm overly worried at all)

It's a bizarre situation. One person pukes on a plane and they send in the hazmat SWAT team but there's no restrictions or screening anywhere else.

I think the wise thing for the government and general population of the US to do is not shit their pants about Ebola. Unless you are making out with, providing blood work for, or making poop sculptures with an infected person it is highly unlikely you will get Ebola in the US.

There are far larger threats to the country, not the least of which is rising ocean levels. But much like Ebola we will wait until that problem bites us in the ass until something is done about it.

EBOLA Transmission (source - WIKI)
Life cycles of the EbolavirusHuman-to-human transmission occurs only via direct contact with blood or body fluid from an infected person (including embalming of an infected dead body), or by contact with objects contaminated by the virus, particularly needles and syringes.[23][24] Other body fluids that may transmit ebolaviruses include saliva, mucus, vomit, feces, sweat, tears, breast milk, urine, and semen. Entry points include the nose, mouth, eyes, or open wounds, cuts and abrasions.[25] Transmission from other animals to humans occurs only via contact with, or consumption of, an infected mammal, such as a fruit bat, or ape. The potential for widespread EVD infections in countries with medical systems capable of observing the correct medical isolation procedures where needed is considered low as the disease is only spread by direct contact with the secretions from someone who is showing signs of infection.[24]

The symptoms limit a person's ability to spread the disease as they are often too sick to travel during the infectious stages of the progression of the disease. As transmission via air is generally ruled out, the possibility of transmission between non-seat-mate airline passengers is also generally ruled out.[26] Because dead bodies are still infectious, traditional burial rituals may spread the disease. Nearly two thirds of the cases of Ebola infections in Guinea during the 2014 outbreak are believed to have been contracted via unprotected (or unsuitably protected) contact with infected corpses during certain Guinean burial rituals.[27][28] Semen may be infectious in survivors for up to 7 weeks.[1] It is not entirely clear how an outbreak is initially started.[29] The initial infection is believed to occur after an ebolavirus is transmitted to a human by contact with an infected animal's body fluids.

One of the primary reasons for spread is that the health systems in the part of Africa where the disease occurs function poorly.[30] Medical workers who do not wear appropriate protective clothing may contract the disease.[31] Hospital-acquired transmission has occurred in African countries due to the reuse of needles and lack of universal precautions.[32][33] Some healthcare centers caring for people with the disease do not have running water.[34]

Airborne transmission has not been documented during EVD outbreaks.[2] They are, however, infectious in rhesus monkeys as breathable 0.8–1.2 ?m laboratory-generated droplets

Don Diego might want to brush up on his Ebola Geography.

DonDiego has altered his erroneous post to indicate West Africa.
He thanks alanleroyII for the correction, . . . and he apologizes to any East Africans who might be reading the LVA Fora.

***EDITED TO ADD***
By the way, . . . looking closely at the map suggests a possible investment.
3 of the world's top cocoa-producing countries, . . . the Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Nigeria are in close proximity to the most dense areas of ebola-infection.
Cocoa prices may be set to rise, . . . significantly. One might consider investing in Cocoa futures or in producers not so near the Ebola Epicenter, . . . like in Indonesia or Brazil.

DISCLAIMER: DonDiego assumes no responsibility for any negative investment results suffered by anyone anywhere at any time, . . . whether the investor read something posted by poor old DonDiego or not. But he would appreciate a "thank you" if things work out well.
