Ebola - What Should the Gubmint Do?

__How'd that work out? Hint: Gore lost.

ii. He also distinguished himself in 2010 while Chief of Staff to Vice President Joseph Biden with advice on the President visiting the headquarters of Solyndra a "solar energy company" which had received a $535-million loan guarantee from the Obama Administration.
Upon receiving correspondence regarding the company's viability [e.g."Many of us believe the company's cost structure will make it difficult for them to survive long term. ... I just want to help protect the president from anything that could result in negative or unfair press."] Mr. Klain responded: "We clearly need to make sure that they are stable and solid."
After investigating he advised Senior White House Advisor Valerie Jarret: "Sounds like there are some risk factors here -- but that's true of any innovative company that POTUS would visit. It looks like it is OK to me, but if you feel otherwise, let me know. The reality is that if POTUS visited 10 such places over the next 10 months, probably a few will be belly-up by election day 2012."
__How'd that work out? Hint: After the taxpayers lost $535-million, The Obama's image was not enhanced.

DonDiego has little doubt Mr. Klain will perform similarly with regard to managing the Government response to the unfolding Ebola Crisis. Heckfire, what could go wrong?

On various LVA Ebola discussions, Boiler has posted Purdue's Dr. Sander's position regarding Ebola being transmitted via airborne methods. Since PJ is content to ignore these posts, I trust that he has decided that a "head in the sand" strategy is best.

Why are some on this site comparing the two diseases?

First you slandered a Purdue scientist's statement and now you are doint the same to me. I didn't compare HIV to Ebola. Your Purdue scientist said non-airborne viruses (like Ebola) could potentially, someday mutate and become airborne. Based on this statement you then lied to the people on this board by telling them Ebola could be transmitted via air.

I simply pointed out that you in fact lied...because you did....and the chances of Ebola becoming airborne are the same as HIV doing the same.

Definition: czar - any person exercising great authority or power in a particular field.

It turns out that Mr. Klain isn't gonna be much of a Czar after all. He will be responsible to the Homeland Security Advisory Council and, more importantly, to Susan Rice - one of the established Obama Administration liars advising the President directly.

Apparently, the entire "czar apparatus" is intended to provide political cover to The Obama if/when things go badly, not a solution to the Ebola crisis.

All righty then. If the Ebola Czar isn't going to have any real authority, responsibility, or important role in the War against Ebola except as a 'fall guy', then Perhaps PJ is right and this Attorney/Political operative IS indeed well qualified. Sorry I got all bent, PJ. I just didn't understand the strategy.

Wasn't that supposed to be what the Black Syphilis would do? Back in the 1980's I heard tell of some thing like that in the PI. Although I never met anyone who knew those folks that were forced to stay in the PI because of the disease.

The new Ebola czar started his job today.
So far he's :
-implemented more strict procedures for Ebola screening at airports and for passengers arriving from West Africa
- started training for healthcare workers soon to be deployed to Liberia
- ordered vaccines from big Pharma to be sent to West Africa

But here's the really amazing thing. He managed to do all of these things despite not having a medical degree. Can you believe it?

And meanwhile Ebola is quickly becoming yesterday's news. The terrorist shooting in Ottawa is the panic-attack du Jour....look for the Ebola pundits to start jumping up and down over the ISIS invasion on our Northern border. When do we start building the wall with machine guns...or other rational solutions? ANd most importantly - what did Susan Rice know and when did she know it?!!??!!

What I can't believe is that our President had to wait for an Ebola Czar for the US Government to take these actions. President Obama doesn't have a medical degree either.

And you'll note that in addition to simple Airport Screenings, while in the US, each traveler from Ebola Hot Spot nations will be required to take their temperature twice daily for 21 days and report that to local health departments.

"If a person is considered “high risk” due to exposure but doesn’t appear sick, he or she would be quarantined for the monitoring period and not allowed to travel on a commercial airline, or on other forms of public transportation such as bus or train." Gosh..sounds like a Commercial Travel Ban in the USA.

But hey...These are also common sense tactics that I applaud...If you aren't going to ban Commercial Travel from those African Nations, then it makes sense to take more precautions here. That was the case a month ago too....It was also the case when PJ was pleased as punch with his 'Experts' doing nothing to monitor these travelers.

I doubt you'll see anyone who wanted a competent and timely response to the African Ebola epidemic 'jumping up and down over the ISIS invasion on our Northern border'...although I imagine many do think porous borders and just allowing people to illegally enter, live and work here is not a very competent immigration policy.

Maybe President Obama should appoint an Immigration and Border Security Czar if that's what it takes for him to take timely action to fix our Border Security and Illegal Immigration issues. Heck..the guy wouldn't even have to be an Immigration Lawyer...Maybe just a simple political operative for this one.

"will be required to take their temperature twice daily for 21 days and report that to local health departments. "

Like that will happen.

The CDC has the authority to do whatever klein is getting credit for from pj, who missed the meeting this past weekend as well as the house hearing. I suspect all the decisions had already been made and he was given credit for it.
Let's clarify this thought? Rock Hudson was also at risk for Ebola when he was screwing that man?

Who knew?

The flu may very well mutate into a virus that makes your dick fly off. Just ask Breitbart.com (or Boilerman) - they'll fill you in with everything you need to know.

The diseases get compared because the media blew the risk of AIDS out of proportion and we fear the media is doing the same with Ebola.

Since the epidemic began, an estimated 21.8 million people have died of AIDS. Yeah...they blew that way out of proportion....and I know what you meant...When AIDS began, ignorant people didn't accept the transmission mechanism. With Ebola, it's pretty clear that it's more easily transmitted than AIDS. It's more deadly than AIDS. It acts more quickly than AIDS...and AIDS has killed 21.8 million.
