Ebola - What Should the Gubmint Do?

Logical folks understand that it takes longer than one day to develop a thoughtful and effective plan to halt Ebola. Since this is so, this is simply further proof that this hiring is all about spin.

Spin, spin, spin!

The new Ebola czar started his job today.
So far he's :
-implemented more strict procedures for Ebola screening at airports and for passengers arriving from West Africa
- started training for healthcare workers soon to be deployed to Liberia
- ordered vaccines from big Pharma to be sent to West Africa

But here's the really amazing thing. He managed to do all of these things despite not having a medical degree. Can you believe it?

And meanwhile Ebola is quickly becoming yesterday's news. The terrorist shooting in Ottawa is the panic-attack du Jour....look for the Ebola pundits to start jumping up and down over the ISIS invasion on our Northern border. When do we start building the wall with machine guns...or other rational solutions? ANd most importantly - what did Susan Rice know and when did she know it?!!??!!

Since we've known about the African outbreak for at least 6 months, a thoughtful and effective plan to halt Ebola should have been in place before now.
OK - so now that it seems clear the Ebola Czar criticism was ridiculous and tantamount to "Obama's Harriet Myers moment" (as non-partisan AlanLeroy called it).....the topic is now changed to what Obama should have done 6 months ago to avoid the out-of-control pandemic that has infected fewer Americans than Taylor Swift has dated.

The "common sense" solutions offered up by our resident fear-mongers (like building walls and instituting flight bans) are already being shown for what they are..... panicky knee jerk reactions from partisan hacks who are quick to embrace talking points from propagandists instead of experts.

I've heard rumors that Ebola nurse Nina Pham's boyfriend has shown symptoms of the disease and that he's been hospitalized. If true, his diagnosis would have been complete some time ago.

Has anyone found a recent article addressing this?

Heck..the guy wouldn't even have to be an Immigration Lawyer...Maybe just a simple political operative for this one.

DonDiego suggests Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
"She received a Bachelor of Arts in 1988 and a Master of Arts with certificate in political campaigning in 1990, both in Political Science, from the University of Florida in Gainesville."

Perfect Czar qualifications.

Wait a minute. Just a week ago ago, PJ and his 'Experts' were happy to do nothing to prevent unfettered commercial travel from Ebola infected areas. They called people who questioned these 'Experts' "Panicky and Knee Jerky".

Just a couple of days later these same 'Experts' are instituting NEW Daily Testing and Reporting Requirements, Quarantines on some travelers and even some US Public Transportation bans. Now PJ worships this marvelous edict from the new Ebola Czar. Either we right to question how travel from Ebola infected areas was being handled or the new precautions are unnecessary...and panicky and knee jerky. Which is it PJ?

I preferred replacing commercial air travel with scheduled military and medical transports but I am happy that at least some adult, somewhere recognized the risk of the uncontrolled access from Ebola Hotspots to the US that PJ previously supported....

Jeeze the hypocrisy is just oozing today.

Now, as to my non-partisan criticism of the qualifications of our new Ebola Czar..that stands. There are people far more qualified by background and experience than a Attorney & Political Partisan for that position. It's unfortunate PJ in HIS partisan blindness can't see that.

PJ argues that this guy, in 8 hours, developed a plan to keep us safe? Wow, what an amazing genius this guy is!

Not exactly a genius, but he does understand how to manipulate those on the Left.

Of course I never said to do "nothing"...or have "uncontrolled access to Ebola hotspots"....and if AlanLeroy had a single ounce of integrity he would quote me saying those things or admit he desperately made them up to defend his position. I've deferred to the experts from day one.....and everyone here including Home-Town-Ref-AlanLeroy mocked my position while spouting uninformed Fox News propaganda.

The experts said a travel ban would do more harm than good...thats why they did not institute one. I went out on a limb and said they understood the problem more than AlanLeroy and his Sean Hannity cue cards. I was right. And a week later AlanLeroy is trying to reconcile his outrageous rhetoric by saying it he is in spirit with what the experts are doing now...the same experts he mocked me for citing before.

Readers can peruse everyone's previous comments on this thread to see who said what. I'm not backpeddling from anything I said. AlanLeroy might break Lance Armstrong's record by backpeddling the Tour De France.

No, I cited an article saying what administrative actions were taken by the unqualified Ebola Czar in his first day on the office.

I cant speak to who created the plan (and I didn't - Boilerman made that up, go figure). I just know who is implementing the plan - The same guy Boilerman and other people here said could not implement the plan because he didn't go to medical school.

Yes...of course PJ has deferred to the 'Experts' since day 1. PJ's support for the 'Experts' is legendary. He supported them when they were doing nothing to screen travelers except to say 'Don't worry it won't come here'. The Experts were wrong. PJ was wrong. That's one. PJ now must deny he supported the 'Experts' or admit he was wrong on that one.

He supported them when they started screening in Africa when they said 'That will stop Ebola Travelers' to the US. The Experts were wrong. PJ was wrong. That's two. PJ now must deny he supported the 'Experts' or admit he was wrong on that one.

He supported them when they said it wont spread in the US after patient 1 was isolated. PJ and the Experts were wrong again. That's three.....

He supports them now that they are instituting new travel reporting, quarantines and bans on public transportation. Surprise! I support this too...because if you aren't going to ban commercial travel from Ebola Hotspots, then this is the next best thing. That too is common sense. How am I backpedaling again? This merely proves I'm not a partisan political hack and I'm perfectly willing to accept a good idea from anywhere when I see it....Duh.

I supported a ban on commercial travel replacing it with Ebola Focused Military and Medical transports. I still do. I think this is also common sense. 75% of doctors surveyed agreed with me. I am shocked that so many in the medical profession must be reading Sean Hannity cue cards as PJ asserts. PJ's 'Experts' disagreed because for some reason they think that there is no other way to transport supplies and people to and from Africa without using a commercial airline. Think man!

If you always defer to others for your thinking and avoid using common sense, you can always blame them when you're wrong. Too bad PJ will never admit the experts he worships have botched our response on many occasions and that there has not been general agreement among Scientists and Medical professionals about our approach. Let's hope the Ebola Czar can whip them into shape.
