El Cortez, and the Fremont East Entertainment District

I've been to Fremont Experience the past few years, but had not wandered down the way to the Fremont East Entertainment District. Wow, this place has exploded in the past three years or so. I did not walk past the El Cortez, thus I didn't visit container park. I only stopped into a few joints along the way, and then gambled at the Cortez for about six hours.

I like the area, and the Cortez gave me some money. Actually, it wasn't that. The gambling odds were good, drinks came fairly quickly, with a few exceptions, the people were friendly, and there's plenty of places outside of the casino to eat and drink. My next trip will likely be spent here.
It's been my favorite casino for years but I think I'm finally ready to move on. One gripe I have is their bar top video poker is riddled with problems.....buttons that stick or don't work at all. But the big issue I have is I've reached the point where they comp me more than I can spend. Between comps and mailed offers they gave me $150 of food on my last trip. Most entrees on the menu at Siegel are under $20 . And I don't want to eat their every day. I miss The Flame.

There's a Japanese guy who plays there and practically lives at the craps table. He usually has about 10k in chips playing on their $3 craps table. If I had that kind of bankroll I'd probably play somewhere that's capable of rewarding better
YAY! The Indy man had some fun and spent 6 hours there.
You may invited back.
I haven't spent much time there. Shame on me!

I'll go there next time instead of the DTG. (The DTG has good tunes, though!)
Vegasdev and I spent a few hours at the DTG and the odds were OK.
The B.J. dealer was telling us about a drink that she had called a blow job. HA HA!
...Must have been invented at a gay bar,I'm guessing.
I enjoy the bar in the lobby, not so much the main bar.
Now that I live out here, I spend more time in Henderson casinos than downtown. They treat locals very well. $10,000 coin-in a quarter gets you four free meals a week. As good as BJ is at the EC, it's better at The Longhorns , with $2 minimums, to boot.

I play exclusively blackjack, and the rules were decent at El Cortez. Also, I just like the character of the East Entertainment district.......................well, maybe not so much at 3am, mind you.

The Cortez won't let you split a third time, I believe, but other than that the rules seemed decent. I was a bit liquored up the first time I tried that multiple split, and there was certainly a limit on splits. They paid 3/2 on blackjacks, which is a novelty in today's Vegas.

I was too lazy and didn't even get a players card. I have a bad habit of that.

IndyBoilerman, you have had a couple of busy days!
Don't beat yourself up for not getting an El Cortez players card.
I'll walk into a casino, planning to spend an hour or so.....6 hours later,I realize that I should have got one.
The pit person will do that for you! Just hand your drivers license to the nice pit boss.

Next time.

As far as the El Kotex having video poker machines do not work well, the last time that I was in the Plaza,I had the same trouble,PJ: They were upgraded to the new pay tables and didn't bother with the electrical/mechanical side. The buttons were of different brands and the lights were different.
I know that if I hit a HOLD button,it should HOLD that card, not mess with me or make me angry!

Machine malfunctions, player malfunctions cannot be corrected.

"Why in hell would I save a 6 with a 3 card royal",I say to the nice floor person.
After the 4th beer,I'm on my own.

Get some sleep,Indy man.
LongHorn lets you split Aces twice, double after splits, double on any three cards and has surrender. It and its sister property The Big Horn are my two favorite BJ games. The El Cortez is my third.

Is there a casino cheaper than El Cortez? Did Siegel inherit those freaking huge baked potatoes from Flame?
Yes, there are several. Longhorns, Big Horn, Luckys, Emerald Island, Klondike come to mind.
Sadly the EC has raised prices and lowered quality the last few years. It's Prime Rib special is a shadow of itself.
