The end of cheap airfare

I dont care how uncomfortable Spirit air is....they have a sale right now MSP to Vegas, Vegas to MSP $19.95!!! No kidding.
Take the boarding pass to the D and get $50??? IS that still going on? I had to book.

But I still see sales posted for Jet Blue and Southwest. I once flew from Boston to Vegas for $115 each. Now the cheapest fare is over $300.

It just keeps people from visiting so often. Maybe the casinos can offer an incentive - like 1/2 your airfare back in casino comps???

Southwest has some days in March with flights from Boston to LV for $119 and return flights for $126 (one day is $119).
It cost my travel mate $550 for a two stop trip that has us going first to Memphis for two days, then Vegas for three (starting in Detroit)
airfare today is still cheap when you compare it to the 1960s and 1970s. A RT between NYC and Rochester in 1978 was $300, today it can be had for well under $200.
In 1982, I commuted between NYC and Florida every month or so and was happy if I could keep airfare under $200 RT. Its thirty years later and I can still find RT airfares in the same price range.
In 1986 I flew to Ireland and it was $411 RT. Next month my RT is $536. That doesn't even keep up with inflation.

That's a good point. It's pretty reasonable when measured against inflation. Movie tickets aren't too bad either using inflation as a measurement tool. I wish that concert tickets and sporting events followed inflation. I was going through some old boxes and I found a concert ticket to a Van Halen show for $8.50 about thirty years ago. I would say it was a mid-level ticket that would cost at least $100 - $120 today.

I saw the GnR Metallica tour in 1992 for less then $40. No way a tour of that caliber would be near that cheap now.

Good ole greed, gotta love it
I recently came across a ticket stub from a Giants- Eagles game from October 1979.
Ticket price was $12. That same ticket today is $650. Even the much worse seats we were forced to switch to when we refused to pay $50,000 a seat for a PSL cost $140 a game.
When the Beatles came to Houston in 1965, I went and the tickets were $6 each. Think about that.

Wow! If the group was intact today then I can only estimate what ticket prices would be ....... $400 minimum?
