ET Highway

My brother and I are discussing renting a car and heading out to Rachel , Nevada. Has anybody done this road trip? I've been to Vegas many times and a road trip to have a beer at the Little A'Le'Inn sounds like it could be fun.
I, myself , have not made the trip. Three years ago, a group of my friends did and said the planning of the trip was a lot better than the actual trip. The Inn is a rat-trap diner turned tourist trap, according to my brothers.
Yes, that's pretty much what my friends told me after they drove out there last year.
Been to Rachael once, over 10 years ago.Nice to visit once so you can say you've done it.Nothing else there. They do not have a motel per se.They had several small mobile home type places that they rented as motel rooms.I had breakfast with the aliens.Like I said, nothing special, but I would recommend doing it once.

I've driven the ET Highway. It's great if you have a sleek car, satellite radio, and enjoy the solitude of the open road.

Rachel itself looks like it was assembled out of what remained from a head-on between a Wal-Mart semi and a relocating mobile home.

If you think you're the sort of person who likes long, lonely drives through desert desolation, it's a good one. I loved it, but I was heading to Elko, not just doing a trip to Rachel.

For something comparable but closer, you might consider a trip to Goodsprings and its Pioneer Saloon.
I've been to Goodsprings, and trust me, there's nothing there worth seeing. It's a very old saloon with pictures and newspaper clippings all over the walls. There's a front porch, where a couple of old men were sitting, with a dog. There's a gift shop (of course) selling souvenirs and assorted junk. There are no aliens there, lol.

You might not have liked it, but I've been to Goodsprings several times. Everytime I bring a new person, they are amazed that a community like this exist so close to Vegas. It all depends what kind of stuff you like. I imagine you wouldn't enjoy Bonnie Springs, or Nelson either, but I find them amazing. Each very different but amazing in their own right.
Would I care to travel three hundred miles to goodsprings? No, but making a fifteen mile detour is fine by me.
If you're going to see the KFC logo at ground level you're out of luck. It was removed a few years ago.
Aliens and bragging about something being finger lickin' good?
Oh my.

Scroll In To See The Colonel

I disagree, the bar scene from Star Wars ain't got nothing on the Pioneer Saloon.
Isn't Bonnie Springs the place where they do the wild west show or something? I'd actually enjoy that.

Looks like it would be a cool place without the neon Budweiser lights and video poker machines that destroy the effect.
