. . . Eyes on the Skies . . .

it's a bird!

It's a plane!

It's a hurlin' junk-yard!
Keep in mind that the target dot is really the center of a 500 mile long, 100 mile wide debris field. Not to mention that if a piece of debris hits an airliner it could increase the debris field significantly.

Then there's the chance the debris could land on a nuclear power plant and overcome all the safely protocols leading to a massive nuclear meltdown, spreading radiation all over the region.

Of course, mutations from the radiation could create a superbug which could spread all over the world killing a large part of the human population.

And then ...

And then zombie apocalypse.
...and when the zombie apocalypse does come, remember the rules from Zombieland (since Tallahassee/Woody Harrelson might not be there to help you!)

Whatever happened to the good zombies, . . . who'd perform every man's desires ?

As DonDiego types the 11:00pm EDT hour is near.

The BAABBODAD (Big-As-A-Bus-Bringer-Of-Death-And-Destruction) is approaching the California Coast, around San Diego. DonDiego calculates that (1) if the US escapes the cataclysm-from-the-sky for the next ½-hour or so and (2) if the latest NASA calculation that the satellite will impact within the next 6 hours is accurate, . . . the good ole' USA will be safe.

DonDiego can now get a well-deserved restful, rejuvenating night's sleep.

On the surface, that is true my dear Noahcat. Based on the volume of the earth, the reverse is more accurate. But yes, it would be more likely to strike water.
It hit Western Canada, . . . about a ½-hour after DonDiego's last post last night. DonDiego wouldn't be surprised if there's some debris in Montana or somewhere like that. DonDiego's final calculation was pretty darn close.

: : : EDITED TO ADD : : :

DonDiego is a mite surprised at 08:18am EDT on 24 September that NASA is reporting so little; couldn't they keep track of something the size of a bus in near-Earth orbit?

Anyway, DonDiego's best guess is that the UARS fell into Western Canada one orbit later than suggested above, . . . coming into Canada from the Northern Pacific around 12:30am to 12:45am EDT this morning.

By the way, there's already a YouTube video purporting to show lots of glowing satellite debris "floating in the sky"; apparently this is not this morning's descent of the UARS, . . . but some video shot in Oklahoma City several years ago.
