FAA shutdown would lead to airlines tickets without taxes...................

Article

According to this article the FAA may partially shutdown at midnight on 7/22/11 due to congress not agreeing on legislation. If the shutdown occurs airlines tickets can be purchased without taxes.
That's interesting.

Thanks for the link.
I expect the airlines to gobble most of this windfall. Why wouldn't they?
Those republicans and their dictatorial notion of what an election is. The people that don't show up to vote are counted as a Union no vote.

US Airways has already raised rates to adjust for the tax decrease. I am not sure who flies with them anyway.. they are the most expensive. 9/11 and airport fees will remain. Only thing removed is the actual tax which is not a huge amount.

I understand that the average amount of the currently-suspended tax is $60 per purchased ticket.
Obama suspends taxes. Awesome.
Associated Press:

Flyers won't benefit from expired travel taxes

US Airways and American Airlines say they've raised fares to offset any tax savings.

That means instead of passing along the savings from expired taxes, the airlines are pocketing the money while customers pay the same amount as before.
Probably because the FAA will charge the taxes retroactively.
Delta is not charging the tax. They have publicly announced that. The price has dropped today for the flight I am thinking about using to Vegas.
