FAA shutdown would lead to airlines tickets without taxes...................

Probably because the FAA will charge the taxes retroactively.
Wrong.
Looks like I misspoke about Delta. I have been reading contradictory statements about them on the online news sites about them and this tax and they have raised their prices back up to close to where they were.
I hope the conservatives learn something from this little example. Namely tax cuts to corporations don't stimulate the economy. The reduction in tax burden goes directly to an increased margin.

Chances are Uncle Sam is going to want those lost dollars back.

Our government never saw a dollar that they didn't want to take away from us.

According to this current report, American, United, Southwest/Airtran, and Delta are all pocketing the tax windfall. Alaska, Hawaiian, and Spirit are not. Frontier and Virgin are unknown.

I think chefantwon's post immediately above is based on ignorant cynicism.

I have complete faith that the government will do everything it can to tax people where they can get away with it. Want proof?

Tell me Mr Chil, at what point does Uncle Sam start taxing your Social Security income?

Yes I would. But you know, actual proof, not just claims, suppositions, and predictions.

While I'm waiting for your proof, here is proof of the opposite. From the U.S. Office of Management and Budget. In an Excel spreadsheet: During the Reagan administration, the total tax revenue as a percentage of the GDP averaged 18.2% and reached a low of 17.3% in 1984. During the Obama administration it's averaged 14.9%.

Of course if General Electric and some of those big oil companies didn't pay zero in taxes...
Here you are:

Paying income tax on Social Security benefits
Updated 07/10/2011 01:55 PM | ID# 493
Do I have to pay income taxes on the benefits I receive?

You will have to pay federal taxes on your Social Security benefits if you file a federal tax return as an individual and your total income is more than $25,000. If you file a joint return, you will have to pay taxes if you and your spouse have a total income of more than $32,000.

Use the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Notice 703 shown on the back of the Social Security Benefit Statement, SSA Form 1099, to determine if any of your benefits may be taxable.

Social Security has no authority to withhold state or local taxes from your benefit. Many states and local authorities do not tax Social Security benefits. However, you should contact your state or local taxing authority for more information.

As DonDiego types, the Congress has not passed the legislation extending the operating authority of the FAA.
