My friends and I have instituted a new approach when we get together at the bar, etc.
We all place our phones face down in the center of the table and proceed to "talk" (??). It's a new thing we call "personnel contact and conversation".
If anybody's phone "rings" ( for any reason), the first one to answer... picks up the tab !
