Fans of Old Las Vegas

Here is a cool website that has pics of some old casino's:

Las Vegas of Yesterday
Call me nostalgic but I much prefer the "old" Las Vegas as compared to what it has become. They just seemed to have a knack for making you feel special no matter what your level of play. I remember feeling like King Tut while playing three dollar blackjack at the Desert Inn. Or actually getting a partial comp to a gourmet dinner at Caesar's Palace after a six hour blackjack session on a two dollar table. When we came down to play the next day the pit boss referred to us by name and asked how we enjoyed our dinner.

Yep I really wish it would go back to those days, of course it never will.
Thanks, wish I could of visited during some of those days.

Yeah, its not the same anymore but I actually attribute that more to the nationwide expanision of gambling as oppossed to the corporate ownership of the Vegas hotels.

I remember the first few times I visited a casino in Atlantic City and later Vegas. They were magical places that offered entertainment not found anywhere else in the country. I still love Vegas but that magic is gone. Almost every major metropolitan area in the country already has gambling or will within a few years.

Now casinos are about as magical as Olive Garden. And I still frequent them cause I like Olive Garden...but its still just Olive Garden.

I was first there almost 30 years ago, 1985
It was so much different back then and better I think.
You truely were appreciated more.
Mostly I miss all the Themed Casino's
I'm with Blade, wish I could've seen some of the old time places. Our first visit was in '99, they were building paris and The Stardust was still there. I remember walking into the casino at Luxor and it was just this huge vsat warehouse of tables and slots. Made me wannna go back to my safe little confines of the Maxim and play. It was very intimidating, tables were packed and the dealers weren't very helpful.Thought I was gonna lose a finger a few times.

I think human nature makes us crave the "original".
I remember my first trips to Vegas when I was in college. A friend's dad would take us, put us in a room and give us his meal comps. We would dress up in our evening best and wander the casinos feeling like big shots.
Then we would go downtown for 25 cent craps.

Those days can never be recreated no matter how much we try.
I can remember when most of the large signs for casinos on the strip included their prime rib specia and their steak and eggs. My first time up was around 85. Caesars was king back then. The hotels and casinos back then were not nearly as plush as they are now. Their ventilation systems were not as good either.
I miss dollar slots that paid out either tokens or actual silver dollars, usually a mix of both....keno runners in every casino coffee shop...and all the NEON
I go back to the mid to late 50's when my parents made their monthly visits (Dad was a high roller in the studios and knew lots of folks). It was special then when all the old strip casinos were opening, but the long dresses and coats & ties are not something I want to go back too...although the dinner shows were really nice. Started going back in the early 80's when my parents moved there and really enjoyed the newer corporate places, but I didn't like the coin machines as I always came open with bruised knunkles.
I think the current card programs, variety of machines and the TITO are much better than the old days. There are also alot more casinos to visit and the bennies seem to be better (havn't paid for a room since the early 90's).
The only reason I would want to go back to see my parents again.
