favorite "money"

Im originally from the East Coast (NYC) where there are certain peculiarities about "money." Now these go back some 40-50 years ago and I don't know if they are still followed:

First, you never pay a cab driver with a $2 bill because cabbies consider it bad luck. But if you are in Boston, $2 bills were commonly used.

today, here in the LA area, $2 bills are very popular among Latinos and are often given as gifts to kids for birthdays.

$50 bills in NY are "cool" but here on the West Coast and especially in LV, $50 bills are considered unlucky. It is very unlikely that a casino will ever give you $50 bills for change. Banks here in the LA area are more likely to stock $2 bills than $50 bills, though we know of an ATM that gives out $50 bills in the LA area.

Half dollars are rarely used anywhere except in casinos to pay off blackjacks.

But in the 1970s when the Eisenhower dollar coins were minted, businesses used them.

In NYC people used to make change with subway tokens (and I doubt that happens anymore).

In NYC it was trendy to have a "cheaters bankroll" which was a wad of $1 bills covered with a single $100 bill.

Today, $10 bills are "unusual." Look in your wallet. Youre likely to have $20s and $5s and $1s but how many ten dollar bills do you have? Why?

I haven't seen a $2 bill in over 10 years.

I've heard about the $50 bill jinx. For whatever reason, I hardly see $50 and think they are not needed. $100 and 20 cover the range well enough.

Haven't seen a dollar coin or half dollar coin in over 10 years. It was quite the novelty to see one back then. Even more of a novelty now.

Do they still use tokens? I thought it was all Metro cards now. That's all I get when I'm in NYC is a refill on my card.

Never cheated or hung out with that kind of crowd. Don't know about a cheater's bankroll.

$10 are not unusual to me. I see no drop off in having them.
I've never heard it referred to as a cheaters bankroll, i've always heard it called after a particular religious group that has a large population in NYC and runs Hollywood.
I've recently been using $2 bills and some people love them but quite a few hate them.
Want to make a kid smile- give him a Kennedy half dollar. They love them.

DD, slide over about 10 of those please. I could use some pocket change.
It's bad luck to carry a $50 bill because it has the image of Ulysses S. Grant, a supporter of the unlucky confederate states.

I hate $2 bills and $1 coins.

I never knew that....

Lol
I'd hate to think what old U.S.Grant would have done to them if he hadn't been such a huge supporter of The Lost Cause. With friends like him, who needs enemies.
$50s are quite common in NYC. I'd say I see five or six for every Hundred dollar bill.
I've gotten a few from casino cashiers but only because I asked for them.
NYC subway tokens have gone the way of the ten cent comic book. Gone but fondly remembered.
Currency exchange places give lots of $50's, usually how you find a tourist.

A bank of america atm spit out 5 x 20's and some 50s to complete my withdrawl... I was furious to get them, but I wasn't going to a casino so dealt with them.

They didn't teach me good in history, so now I know a new factoid. Thanks chipchikie
