Favorite (Vegas) movies or shows?

What are your favorite Vegas movies or shows? Note, I am over the hangover. But I have no cable and wanted to grab a few movies or shows to have on hand for company and background tv for those who need it.

Or just some recommendations for guests not knowing their preference or mood. So something classic and timeless. A friend is bringing a female I have never met. So I don't know her taste at all. I love rango but it seems to go over most heads. So far I ordered the fisher King, the time travelers wife and hector and the search for happIness. I do enjoy castaway so will order that maybe. And Ricky Bobby is my fave movie ever. That is about as main stream as I usually watch.

Has anyone watched shameless or Jane the Virgin. Although shameless lost steam for me in season two.
Casino, or if that doesn't work the saved By the Bell movie where they go to Vegas.

I prefer Casino
Try to find "The Long Shot" starring Richard Dryfuss.
It isn't Vegas, but about his day at the horse track.
So funny, especially if you've every played the horses.

It is actually my favorite gambling movie of all time, more than the Vegas movies.

But, these come to mind and are good:
Casino
Oceans Eleven (the newer one-Clooney, Pitt, Roberts, etc.)
Vegas Vacation (Chevy Chase)
Honeymoon in Vegas (SJP, Nick Cage, James Caan)
Indecent Proposal (Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, Redford)
That last one is kind of a downer if you aren't in the mood for such.

The Sting (Redford, Newman) isn't Vegas either, but it is priceless.

"Big Hand for a Little Lady" is seldom on anyone's list, but a favorite of mine.
Set in the old west, five guys ride in to a saloon for THE POKER GAME of the year.
Jason Robards, Paul Ford, Charles Bickford, Henry Fonda, Burgess Meredith, Joanne Woodward, others you'll recognize. Wonderful movie.
Very entertaining, funny, twist ending.
Casino (I was actually there when they were filming at the Riviera)
Oceans 11(newer version)
Oceans 13
The Gambler (original with James Caan)

It's not Vegas, but Rounders is about poker in the New York underground clubs with several references to Las Vegas. The movie "Lucky You" is about poker (The World Series) and is set in Las Vegas. It is also where I made my one and only movie debut as a member of the crowd watching the final table. It was filmed in Binions.

Rounders is a great movie. I bought the DVD. They have an option on the DVD whereby you can play the movie and get ongoing commentary from Phil Hellmuth, Johnny Chan, Chris Ferguson, and Chris Moneymaker.

Ed Norton does a great job of playing a total sleazeball and John Malkovich has a great part.
El Cortez
The last couple of seasons of Crime Story where they move from Chicago to Vegas
3,000 Miles to Graceland.

There was a movie set in the late 90s about an older guy with a mysterious past who is making a living as a low stakes card counter. He's getting old and takes in a younger guy as a sort of apprentice, but the guy rips him off. Any of that ring a bell? The guy has an apartment off Fremont, and they show the exterior of the El Cortez from his front door. Ring any bells?
I really enjoy the original Oceans 11. Not so much the new series.
I enjoyed the first episodes of Lucky, not the last ones.

"Big Hand"..... Great movie. I found a DVD of this movie a few years ago and watch it about once a month.

Ray
The Sting was on Turner classic just the other night, hadn't seen it for 20+ yrs. Grteat movie.

"500,000 thousand on lucky dan to win"
For drama, I don't think you can beat Casino. The "factional" storyline is great and the acting is better.

For comedy, I have to go with Vegas Vacation, but a close second to Honeymoon in Vegas. In one you've got a buffet featuring "the yella" and the other has a mother vacuuming naked. How can you go wrong? I know a lot of people would vote for the Hangover, which was good, but I'll go for the first two.

A couple of honorable mentions would be the Oceans remake because it's just plain entertaining. Leaving Las Vegas was a very good film, but I've only watched it once because it flat out depressed me.

Good Luck!
