Judge Orders California to Pay for Inmate's Sex Change

"A federal judge on Thursday ordered California's corrections department to provide a transgender inmate with sex change surgery, the first time such an operation has been ordered in the state. .."

"..."This decision confirms that it is unlawful to deny essential treatment to transgender people" in or out of prison, said Kris Hayashi, executive director of the Transgender Law Center. "The bottom line is no one should be denied the medical care they need."

If the order stands, Norsworthy would be the first inmate to receive such surgery in California, said Joyce Hayhoe, a spokeswoman for the federal receiver who controls California prison medical care.

Hayhoe said it's not known how much the surgery would cost, but it could run as high as $100,000 depending on the circumstances.

I wholeheartedly agrre that inmates get the medical care they need, BUT REALLY!?...a sex change is medically necessary? Gimme a break.

I think we should sign them up for Affordable Health Care (aka Obama Care). That would solve the problem.

Since it was a Federal Court ruling, I imagine it will apply to all states, not just California.

Why anyone would want to live in California is beyond me. Bankrupt, overpriced, over taxed, over run by illegals, and run by imbeciles - truly the land of fruits and nuts.

Chilly fails to mention that California had further to pull out of the recession and that we are not about back to pre-rececession levels.

This is the state where Governor Moon Bean is in the unions pockets and is going to try and force this LA to SF bullet train through even though studies have said they are never going to be able to match what was promised in the initiative. This is the bullet train that will need four times the ridership of the train that goes between New York and Boston.

Meanwhile, very little has been done to build infrastructure to store water.

The democrats have royally screwed this state. It has consistently ranked last for states to do business in.
