Rather than start another thread, I hijacked this thread, sorry for the misunderstanding.

NYC has a mayor that does not have any respect for the police and has been disparaging them for the past year. As a result of the negative atmosphere, 4 policemen have been shot and a number have been injured in the last month.

Wow - are you really this stupid? Or or you just parroting all the idiots on Faux News?

Whoa there genius...If the NYPD rank and file didn't feel this way, why are they turning their backs on the Mayor every time he speaks?

Why did their Union leader claim De Blasio had 'Blood on his hands'? Are they all stupid too or are you just blaming Fox News for everything you don't like?

By "they" you mean "some", right? I mean, cause otherwise you're guilty of the same shameful behavior as the NYPD union leader who is falsely speaking on behalf of many people that disagree with him within his own ranks. Many black cops in the NYPD say they have experienced the same harassment as Eric Garner when off duty.
https://www.reuters.com/article/2014/12/23/us-usa-police-nypd-race-insight-idUSKBN0K11EV20141223

Mayor De Blasio ran on a campaign that promised to eradicate the racist and (now) court-ruled illegal practice of "stop-and-frisk" which statistics showed was overwhelmingly used disproportionately against the black community.

"SOME" of the NYPD obviously have a problem with the mayor (and courts) making public the statistical facts of race demographics used in that practice....they don't like being labeled "racist" even though that adjective is not an opinion but rather a statistical fact of the department's behavior. "SOME" members of the NYPD think the Eric Garner incident demonstrated a perfectly acceptable method of law enforcement.
"SOME" members of the NYPD agree with the change brought on by the new mayor.

Our resident board members are free to side with whichever "SOME" of the NYPD they wish.

Of course not ALL NYPD agree with their Union head and not all turned their backs on the mayor...but I was responding to Melonhead's claim that Hoops (a NY City resident) is either 'Stupid' or 'Just parroting all the idiots on Faux News when clearly MANY if not MOST of NY City's finest believe Mayor De Blasio's rhetoric has contributed to an anti-police atmosphere.

So do you agree with Melonhead that Hoops and a large number of the rank and file of NYPD are Stupid Or do just think they just all parrot Fox News?

I think they are woefully misguided. Equating opposition to a stop and frisk policy to creating a hostile environment for police is ridiculous. If anything the misdeeds of the past is what created a hostile environment.

IMO any government organization that gets angry when their policies and procedures are questioned and says to oppose their methods is akin to advocating for murder is an organization that is overdue for a good top to bottom house cleaning.

Melonhead can fight his own battles with people he believes are stupid (even if you made up the part where he called cops stupid).

Was the "anti-police" atmosphere you talk about created by Mayor DeBlasio? Or was it created by the court-ruled, unconstitutional law enforcement practices of the NYPD that statistics proved was overwhelmingly used to target minorities? I think all of the anti-police people would say its the latter - And I'm sure the FOX News parrots would say its the former.

I don't paint with broad brush. Clearly there are people in the NYPD that are pissed the new mayor has confronted some of their previous, racist enforcement practices. I don't give a shit. I disagree with them. They can be pissed all they like. And if they think racial profiling is an acceptable approach to their job I'm happy to invite them to quit. The city is better off without them and so is the rest of the police force that has to patrol the neighborhoods of Eric Garner (and the like) in the backdrop of lots of pissed off residents that now don't trust the police.
deblasio told his son to be wary of the police because he is black.

He did not speak out when the mobs were chanting kill the cops

He reappointed the judge who released without bail 2 men threatending to kills police

He says the force needs to be retrained and then brags about how crime has dropped.

In the stop and frisk case, the case was overturned by a federal appeals court & the judge was removed due to extreme bias against the police.

Clearly many if not most NYPD officers are in complete agreement with Hoops on the Mayor's Rhetoric adding to an anti-police atmosphere....to the point where their Union Boss claims De Blasio has "Blood on his hands". You may disagree with them, but they are neither stupid nor parroting Fox News. That's my point. Get it?

That was good advice. And statistics prove why it was good advice.

Hoops, how many times in the last 10 years have you been shaken down on the street by a cop without any probable cause?

Melon - what did I say that was incorrect? Do you live in NYC?

No, I do not live in NYC, but I grew up in Chicago, so I have seen some crooked and racist cops who think they're above the law. I'm just amazed that you stand by the ridiculous assumption that the mayor is at fault for police officers getting shot, just because he had the audacity to speak truthfully.
If we can't stop and frisk blacks at a higher rate, then logic would say that we can't put more cops in their neighborhoods. Cut back on cops in these black neighborhoods to the same level as the average white neighborhood, and watch what happens. I won't be pretty.

I don't believe that stop and frisk was found to be unconstitutional, but instead the Mayor decided to end it. It saved many lives with the preponderance being black lives. No skin off of my ass, but I suspect that most the law abiding citizens in these black neighborhoods enjoyed the decrease in crime.

We dont have to speculate. Stop-and-frisk has been out since 2012.....and crime has decreased in NYC. Thats a pretty embarrassing fact for proponents of racial profiling. ...and people who like to blame bad relations on the new mayor instead of the archtiects of police racism.
If I were advising a young black friend, I would explain that a high percentage of crime is committed by black men, and for this reason cops look at blacks with a suspicious eye.........it's human nature. This nature also helps cops cut down on crime within the black community keeping the good people safer.

I would further explain that this extra attention is a necessary evil if the goal is to lower crime and save black lives.

Blacks can whine about the suspicious eye, but aren't extra cops proof of a suspicious eye?
