Ferguson once again a tinderbox

However, it is good to know that our President has gone on another 17 day vacation! What a missed opportunity; for him to show his presence and lead a protest for the betterment of his own race. Instead of heading of to Kenya to visit his "roots" he should pay more attention to what is happening in his own backyard.
It is time for the blacks to stand up for their communities and move in a positive direction. We are losing an entire race of young people that have no direction, respect for others or positive influences in their lives.
Successful blacks need to unite and fight this now! Obama should have been there with Michelle, Oprah, Barkley, Jordan, Magic and many many other successful blacks. And not just an appearance but follow up with some substance. Something this President needs to learn to do. Speeches don't accomplish this, it is hard work and time.
We lost an entire race "helping" the Indians in what we thought was a positive manner, how has that worked?

This is NOT a democrat or republican matter but "change" that has to happen. If he is really about "change" he should have made it a priority for his years as our leader. He has failed his own people. Very very sad.

Sorry you see it as a "tirade". But, he has missed a golden opportunity to show that he really "cares". Do you have any real solutions to the strife of the "inner cities"? No, I did not think so. Finish off that 12 pack and get too bed.

Not a human in the World knows for certain if Obama considers himself to be "black", and you are correct that he is fully comfortable lying and being dishonest. My gut feel, however, is that he does consider himself to be black.

The reason I find it interesting is that it seems most folks consider Obama black - adhering to the long ago accepted theory of the "one drop rule."

From 1970 - 2000 I was a educator and taught in several ethnically-mixed communities. My first lesson learned: when filling out registration cards, the race of the student is what he/she/parent say they are. That was a hard lesson for me to learn as I had grown up in a lily-white community where the "one drop rule" prevailed - and still does! "You can tell by looking."

My next observation: a child with a white mom and black dad - especially those where "baby daddy" had hit the road and they were actually being raised by white grandparents - almost always identified with whites. Until... It could be an advantage to mark that minority race box on an application - such as special academic awards, scholarships, free lunch, etc.

That really bothered me for several years that someone could switch races whenever it was to their advantage. But as I became older (hopefully wiser) I saw that being born - no choice of their own - half black/half white is a living hell. You are an outcast of both groups. It takes a very special family to be able to raise a successful mixed child in our prejudiced society (both black and white.). Unfortunately the inner schools where I taught had very few "special families."

My daughter's best friend since first grade ( they're in their 40's now) had a white mama/black daddy. I got to watch up close and personal the challenge of being mixed in our society. She was one of the fortunate ones. Hopefully as our society becomes more educated and tolerant, the one drop rule will eventually dissolve.
