Oh I don't think it should be "roulettemanned" - removed because I disagree with it. Most of us here are better than that.

The big corporations are busy diving up the spoils gained from American chumps while the chumps are distracted with Wiener’s wiener pictures. The latest spoils (Swipe Fees) have just gone to the big box retailers for those of you keeping score.

And for those that care about Health Care in the Oral Arguments (Federal Appeals court in Atlanta) it appears (from the questions asked) that the judges are leaning towards ruling the mandate unconstitutional, but leavening the rest of it in place. (The optional solution)

THIS thread began with "Looks like our favorite named politco has admitted to his tawdry twitters. Says there are many more like it and wont relinquish his seat." Non-political?

You're right about 'THIS' thread. Don Diego's thread started innocently enough though....as did the Arnold thread. It was others that turned it political....and I've got to add that unfortunately this thread and Jatki's last political thread were unnecessary pot stirrers...espeically since they both came immediately after previous related threads were deleted.

Let me get this straight. You are upset that a cap was put on banks charging swipe fees to merchants (which is passed on to the consumer)? I never knew you were a big defender of big banks mali.

I like that the big banks got spanked. The only problem is it went to big retailers instead of consumers and or the government. The swipe fees were a vestige from the days of non-computer credit card transactions where there was a lot of paperwork involved. Over the years the banks just pocked the increased profits even though the transactions were much easier to process. What I am upset about is congress has spent more time on this issue than anything else (jobs, health care and so on) and both big monied groups felt like they were entitled to this money. It never was brought up maybe we should give it to the consumers (the people that actually pay these fees) or perhaps the government should just call it a tax as a way to increase revenues without having to raise taxes on anyone, but no the only question was who would get the consumer's money the big banks or big box retailers.

Come on Mail, don't you remember that once a tax or fee is in place, it never goes away. It only gets larger. Kinda like that tax they repealed that was enacted to pay for the Spanish American War.......
We have already been paying this tax for years. Formerly, it went to big banks now it is going to big box retailers. It is shameful how our
elected officials conduct themselves divvying up the loot taken from taxpayers and giving it to private enterprise. It doesn’t even cross their mind that neither big banks nor big retailers are entitled to this windfall. If you think what Wiener did was bad this is absolutely obscene.

Senators dreaded the vote because no matter whose side they chose, a major corporate interest would be angered. "They don’t wanna choose between their two favorite children," Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), a bank backer, said before the vote.

BTW the big banks have promised to get their “stolen” loot back directly from the consumer.

I hate to break it to mal, those fees are charged in the same manner that merchant fees are charged and are CHARGED TO ALL PARTICIPATING MERCHANTS, small and big.

I'm talking about the merchants who HIRE people and GIVE PEOPLE INCOME PAYING JOBS. We are talking about an estimate of 12 billion dollars that will be saved ultimately by these merchants and their customers.

Only a lover of big banking would want these fees to remain the same.

RM the participating part went out the window years ago. Unless the business is still operating with equipment out of the 1980's, everything is computerized. (participating back then ment if you accepted CC's, now everybody does)

About 15 years ago, I worked for a bank who handles Best Buy and NTB. Typically businesses pay between 2% to 5% per transaction, plus a setup fee. (usually AMEX and Discover only)
