I am traveling this week in China and have a few observations:
1) I wished I had a chance to stop in Macau as I understand the Venetian and Bellagio are even on a grander scale than Vegas
2) My visits took me to Shanghai, Suzhou, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Conditions varied, but the new building is amazing. Suzhou is so modern and rivals any modern city in the US.
3) The children in China Start Kindergarten at age 3 and go for 3 years. That gives them such a head start on our children - how can they afford it and we cannot.
4) Why do our schools not teach Mandarin? Anyone with half a brain can see that future businessmen will need this skill. Why do our educators feel that a green agenda is more important?
5) The standard of living for the Chinese is much improved over 20 years ago, but it has a long way to go. Most still cannot afford a car but they value western goods highly. We are their role models!
6) The Chinese currency (RMB) is kept artificially low compared to the dollar. This makes goods cheap for us but continues to make China a low-cost labor market with all the jobs flowing overseas. If the RMB were allowed to float at market rates, it would raise the standard of living for the Chinese and make the American labor force more competitive. The free market works when governments allow it to.
7) If I had young children today, I would either move to an Asian country and immerse them in the culture if possible or at least make sure they learned Mandarin instead of German, French, or Spanish.
