Fish Oil Pills (question)

I seem to recall "someone" (doctor or medical professional ? ) quite awhile back, telling me that Olive Oil is just as beneficial as Omega 3 or fish oil.

Anyone know ?

Olive Oil is plentiful in my home. Never gave much thought to "adding" a fish oil supplement to my nourishment routine since I use OO almost daily. ::: shrug :::

Olive is not as beneficial as Omega 3. They simply are just different. You can't get any fish oil benefit from fish that are massed raised in a fish farm. Those would be the ones you see where they just grow them in basically a large swimming pool. The problem is that those fish are fed some form of a corn based meal. Corn has a high density of "bad" fat compared to "good" fat. This kills the benefits you would get from those fish.

You can get both liquid and gel caps from a company called Nordic Naturals. The liquid isn't all that bad tasting either. This is one of the best companies for purchasing good fish oil.

Hope that helps.
MEGA RED is the smaller fish oil tablet. They are about a third of the size of nornal fish oil tabs. They smell better too
As Indy stated, check with your doctor BEFORE taking any fish oil pills.

I just eat more fish, mainly salmon and other deep water varieties.

Since I have high blood pressure, I tend to stay away from any medications.

Rick, place the pill between your gum and lip and wait for it to disolve. (there are some folks that can't swallow pills, and most pills are quite the nasty tasting stuff)

Fortunately, I live in SE Florida, only 3 miles from the Atlantic.

I fish frequently, and only eat finned fish that I have caught or seen caught. I never buy fish in the markets. NEVER. Rarely in restaurants unless they "show" the whole fish. I do go out for sushi monthly, and will try it on buffets when it looks good.

Most common edible catch from the piers or beach here are Mackeral, Snapper, Grouper, Kingfish, Pompano, and Robalo (Snook) but if it swims in the Atlantic, it's been caught.

I probably get "enough" fish oil through my diet, since I'll eat fresh fish 50-100 x per year. Add the OO I consume, and I figure I don't need the supplement.

But, who's to know? Does it show up on blood tests during exams, etc? I am willing to re-evaluate not using a fish oil supplement if told I should.

No, you just end up smelling like Tuna.....
Saw a commercial tonight for a new pill by Centrum where they show how small their pill is compared to the large ones you are talking about.

JoladagoI'll be checking this out. Thanks.

Apparently there seems to be a market for smaller pills and capsules.
I take a few vitamins and supplements,
and many times because of the dark containers (to prevent the product from light) I can't tell the size of the pill.
Now I see that some companies are showing the pill size on the label, or stating "now smaller size".

Rick
I was taking 9 grams of fish oil a day. Strength Coach Charles Poliquin likes to say that krill oil is a fish oil on steroids. I have not lowered my fish oil intake and aded in a 1mg of krill oil, and an asthaxantan of 10mg.

All of them are super omega 3, and more than just beneficial.

Good point. Omega 3 is what you want; just fish oil.
