Five Guys Burgers And Fries!

I've read about these burgers on this forum, but never thought I'd get a chance to try them unless I traveled to an area where they were sold. But a few weeks ago, I was driving through an area that was developed just for new stores and a movie theatre, and saw a sign going up at a former Arby's saying it was going to be Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

So the other day after getting Faye's hair and nails done, we were all getting hungry. I said let's go and see if that Five Guys is open. Well it sure was and I couldn't wait to try it. Faye's not to big on burgers, so she said she would take a few bites from mine.

When I walked in, the first thing in noticed was that they turned the whole former restaurant around from the way Arby's had been laid out. There were large bags of USDA potato sacks stack on top of each other, and bags of peanuts next to them which were free for the taking.

When I looked at the menu board, at first I thought the prices were a little expensive for a burger or fries, but I would judge that after I tasted one and the other. So I ordered a double and got a single for my dog sitter and one order of small fries. There are no "meal deals" so everything is ala carte.

While I waited for my order, I started reading the rave reviews that were posted on signs around the restaurant. "BEST BURGER.....BEST FRIES..ETC." So I asked the cook what was so special about their burgers. So he starts to tell me how the burgers are ground fresh every day, and the fries were also made fresh each day. Big deal I thought...so does In_N-Out Burger.

So I saw them wrap my burgers in aluminum foil...that was different. Then they had a cup of fries and a metal tray of same next to the cup. She placed the cup of fries next to the burgers in the bag, and then dumped the whole metal tray of fries on top of that. WOW! And this was a small order no less.

I took the order out to the car so we could all get started eating. What was amazing is the amount of toppings that they offered. My friend ordered his "all the way" while I opted for mayo, ketchup, mustard, pickles and grilled onions. I handed my friend his burger and the cup of fries. I couldn't believe there were so many fries still left in the bag.

I got out "our" burger, and took a bite. Damn! It was really good. Now Faye wanted a bite, and after she tasted it, I could see her face light up with glee. She immediately wanted another bite to make sure it was as good as she first thought. She then proclaimed it to be, "THE BEST BURGER I EVER ATE!" And I had to agree, as did the dog sitter. And those fries were out of this world. I'm sure we'll be making many more trips to this place in the future.
Gotta love the malt vinegar with the fries.

Best Burger there...Cheese, tomato, lettuce, onion...and A1 Sauce. Order it once and you'll never order a different way after.
It's a good thing you didn't get the large order of fries. You could feed a third world country with just one order. We made that mistake the first time we went there.

No matter how close you live to a 5 Guys, the bag is greasy before you get home...
and that is a good thing!
What I love about their burgers are they taste just like ground beef, no extra spices.

One order of fries is enough for 2 or 3 people. I learned that the hard way.
Thanks for spreading the word. Your review made my mouth water. We are always looking for a good burger.
the only Five Guys in my area is right next to my gym. I usually go in the mornings before work, but when I go in the evenings, you can smell all kinds of awesomely wonderful smells coming from that place. and I hate that it's right there! still haven't tried it
I suppose i really should try them sometime but i've always had some kind resistence to them for some reason. I guess its time next we pass one and we're hungry.

We've got one in Detroit at the Greektown Casino. You're right about the fries.
I've never been to one, but they are in Vegas. The one I see all the time is at Craig & Losee, kitty-corner from the Cannery.
