I doubt that when the casino pays a 30-thousand jackpot that it costs them 30-thousand to administer the program.

I'd be curious whether this has been addressed by the regulatory folks in California.

The regular players, the grinders are probably aware. It's the occasional players that have no clue, nor do they realize how much is "kept".

Do the rooms have other promotions? Aces cracked, high hands, free roll tournaments? Those would be funded by the BBJ as well.

Here in Florida, the Seminoles used to tell people all the money went back to players. But they were keeping 15% administrative fees. It was a closely guarded secret at the time.

Now, they swear they give it all back, but sometimes the numbers do not "track" with expectation, and I do have my doubts. When high stakes became legalized, I do not know if this issue was addressed or not.

Hey, if the casino tells you it's true, than it has to be true, right? Especially a Tribal Casino.

At 6:00 pm, the jackpot will be:

$556,936

(Unless it's hit in the next 45 minutes or so.)

RoadTrip,

Been to the Hard Rock in Tampa quite a bit and always have that thought in the back of my mind of hitting that bad beat. Of course the odds are way way out there. Used to play there alot, but go to Lucky's most of the time. The up and down fluctuations don't seem to be as high there. Although I have made a ton of money showing up to the Hard Rock during wee hours of the morning and catching the sleepy drunks.

On a side note, Lucky's had a one day promotion last month. They paid out $1,000 an hour for the highest hand in the room ( Aces full of tens or better to qualify and only needing one card in your hand). It was crazy there. Usually on a Thursday you would be lucky to see 5 tables going. With in 20 minutes of them opening, all 20 plus tables were full and stayed that way till I left at 9pm (after my Quad Aces made it for the hour).

They also have more promos than Hard Rock too. You have the high hand thing like i just mentioned, but it runs everyday for 3 hours in the afternoon and pays 150 every half hour. The good old aces cracked for 100 bucks runs for two hours in the afternoon and again in the evening. Then if you get quads or better with using both whole cards you get paid too.

Those Lucky's promos sound enticing. Are there are any decent limit hold'em games? $3-6, $4-8, $5-10, $10-20? Down here, it's mostly $2-4.

Much easier to crack Aces when playing limit, although there is also a big sacrifice in potential profit, and the expense of playing. Personally, I prefer limit games. I actually believe no limit is "bad" for the industry.

$100 Aces cracked promo, in limit, is worth more than $8.00 per hour in +EV. Down here, they stopped it at most places because of collusion among the players. Currently, only Seminole Casino Hollywood has it, at 10 am, for the first 10 cracked. I try to stay up to date on that promo because it's like a part time job. Easy enough to win a little while waiting for something "big" to happen. :::shrug:::

The other promo's are nice, but the +EV is often just not worth much, especially when the room is crowded.

I do play Aces almost every opportunity I have. To me, it's a "job". LOL

Road Trip

Unfortunately Lucky's see such a small crowd that there is never a limit game going. They offer it, but the only tables you see are 1-2 NL and usually one 2-5 NL table. For the past few months, the 1-2 PL Omaha table seems to be the popular one instead of the 2-5 NL Holdem. As far as the promotions go, I do not change my game to chase these little pay outs. I look at it as a bonus if I happen to hit one while still playing my game. Sometimes the old timers get a bit pissed because they want to limp in with every hand hoping to get a high hand during that 3 hours period. No matter how many times I try to explain that you have a better chance making money by playing the right way as opposed to trying to catch a "high hand", they just keep on complaining. During aces cracked is the only time I change things up. Usually i will just limp in and call all the way down and hope for the best. Most of the time I am one of the big stacks (a lot of people only buy in for 20-40 dollars during the promos) so I am guaranteed either a 20 dollar win, or a 20-30 dollar loss (which after the 100 payout puts me at a 70 dollar profit).
No Limit Aces Cracked for $100: "We've" discussed this many times (my poker buddies, etc) and the consensus seems to be that it is desirable to have $100.00 or less on the table during the promotion. In one room, a table change does not "require" all chips going back into play, so there are often table change requests among the no limit players during Aces Cracked. (That is such a bad rule, and desperately needs to be corrected)

The consensus strategy is to get all in, and hopefully either double-triple up, or get the $100 to put us back to origin. In "our" no limit 1-2 games, a bring in of $10-$12 is not unusual! Lot's of poor players are maniacs. Too much "Durr". lol

I find myself often sitting into a $1-2 NL game while waiting for a Limit seat during the promos I do play. Would rather be in action with a shot, than waiting on the sidelines. It's profitable for me, more so than Limit, but I believe that No Limit is bad for the industry in general, so don't play it unless I "have" no other choices.
