When is the optimal time, in advance, to buy tickets? I am assuming a non flexible date that my employer has given me time off. Or a set schedule such as Monday out, Thursday or Friday return. Thanks in advance!

My wife and I are flying out to Vegas on a monday morning and returning on a saturday morning. (2-11-13 to 2-16-13). I found the tickets to be cheaper. We am flying out of Raleigh NC on Delta. A round trip for 2 cost us $274 and some change. I made the reservations the 1st week of January.

I find Jet Blue has the best prices about six weeks out. However, you can buy your tickets whenever and if and when they go down JB will credit you the difference. Only catch s you have one year to use the credit or it expires. Thats a problem for some people.

We usually book S/W as soon as flights are available, which is about 5-6 months before our trip.

We are already booked for this May (112 days away).

The first day of a seat sell was the best for myself & girlfriend leaving Toronto on a Saturday & returning the following Saturday. I booked the flights in late December & we fly out to Vegas on April 20th for $492.78 each. If I booked 2 weeks later it was $200.00 more each.
