For Once...Vegas is an Afterthought

Hey all,

I'm headed out to the west coast tomorrow for the Turner Classic Movie film festival in Hollywood. Yee-Haaa! I've tacked on two extra days in Vegas at the end of my trip. Couldn't really pass up $200 in free play and comped rooms! For once, I'm looking forward to the other part of the trip more than the Vegas part. Is it me or is Vegas less exciting than it was a few years ago?

On my last visit (Oct 2010) I stayed at TI and thought that the streets looked dirtier and there were more bums and panhandlers than I remembered. That was my first stay at TI though, so maybe it's always been that way? Any comments?

Also, is anyone else going to the film fest? I know this is a Vegas board but seems like there are plenty of LA people here.

For those of you from LA: does my plan to take the FlyAway Bus from the airport to the Union Station stop then metro to the Hollywood/Highland stop sound sane? I'm more pressed for money than time on this trip, but will pay for a cab if it is much quicker/safer. I will have to drag my bags along but it looks like the trip will be less than $10 using public transport.

Hoo-Ray for Hollywood!

Jackie

...yes, I would say it is just you...I look forward to my next Vegas trip the minute I get home from one...but have fun at the festival!
i often combine vegas trips with other things.

if im booking a vegas trip, i cant stop thinking about anything other than vegas.

if im booking a west coast trip for something and then tacking on a couple of days in vegas, then i tend to be more excited about the event that got me to book a west coast trip to begin with.

the last (and only) time i was in hollywood, i took supershuttle from the airport to hollywood. i dont remember at all how much it cost but it was way cheaper than a cab. it will probably save you some time too. look into it.

have fun!

I second that it is you.... There are a lot of fun things to do and places to go but my love for Vegas stays on top.

I don't know if its just you, but its certainly not true for me.
Have a good time in Hollywood. My daughter lives just a couple of blocks from the Hollywood/Highland mall and I enjoy visiting the area.
To answer your original question, I don't know if Vegas has become dirtier (cleanliness wise), but there is definitely an increase of panhandlers. The bold and brazen ones will come inside the casinos and ask you for money.

I don't think City Center has done anything to help the look and feel of Vegas either.
