For or Against the De-Theme-ing of Vegas

Against. The new non-themed casinos/hotels are extravagant but boring.

I also agree with DonDiego that the original pirate-theme at Treasure Island was much much better than the sultry vixens.
I am for the de-theming of the likes of Excalibur and Monte Carlo, to name two. I am opposed to the de-theming of Venetian, Paris and Bellagio, to name a few.
I am against. For ALL of them.

Any casino without a theme, to me, is just a fancy Indian-casino-type place. We can all see shiny bright lights, tables, slot machines, etc. when we go to one of the many (hundreds?) of Indian casinos that abound around the U.S. of A.

The themed casinos made/make Las Vegas...Las Vegas, in my opinion. Even the 'cheesy' ones...that's Las Vegas.

I only took my teen-aged kids to Vegas once when they were growing up (in the days when Vegas was promoting 'family' [ha ha] vacations). One of my cherished memories is of a time when we stayed at Excalibur and had our photo taken in period costumes. I have that photo framed and on the wall in our house now. Such happy times.

And, I'm sorry DonDiego, I have to disagree with your post.

And what about Quark's Bar ? ? ? teechur and DonDiego held their wedding rehearsal dinner at Quark's......The most memorable occasion of DonDiego's long life.

Although going to Quark's for our wedding WAS fantastic, it is NOT the most memorable occasion of my life....um....giving BIRTH to TWO children was the most memorable occasion in MY life. Sorry, sweetie!
I like themes but I also like Vegas being for adults.

Venetian, Paris, Luxor all have a certain kind of mature elegance to them. Excal , TI, and NYNY seem more like a carnival to me.

Keep the mature themes...discard the kiddy ones.

Monte Carlo? What theme is the Monte Carlo? They don't have no stinkin' theme.

The Wynn has my favorite theme. Lots of pretty women in sexy clothes wondering about tipsy.
I, too, have fond memories of Treasure Island with the pirate theme. Dave and I used to walk over there frequently when we stayed at the Frontier. Back then they had good .25 VP (8/5 Bonus -- I hit royals a couple of times on those machines near the gift shop). And the gift shop had the best stuff for my kids and grandkids -- the pirate logo on sweatshirts and t-shirts was great! We both loved the pirate show outside, too.

I loved the Luxor's theme, too, especially the talking camels and the indoor "river."

Today's casinos are indistinguishable from each other -- no reason to go to any of them.

Ain't that the truth. Monte Carlo sold its soul to the devil, literally and figuratively, when it plopped Diablo's right at their strip entrance.

I still think there was some major palm greasing on that one. Most city planning commissions would never allow a building like Diablos to be built where it is.
THEMED CASINO RESORT

UN-THEMED CASINO RESORT
Against and for...for the "Disney/Carney" thems of Circus, Circus and Excal..even though excal has re-vamped the inside..you can get rid of the cheesy out side....
