Frank Update

It will be 3 weeks until my current obligations are complete and I have the time to post on this site again. I still intend to work on the RS Evaluation as I promised.

It is obvious from all the posts I partially read until nausea set in, that sides are quite polarized on this topic.

In an effort to diffuse this, I strongly recommend a book called "The Believing Brain" which discusses how beliefs are formed and how biases are reinforced when sides form, both convinced the other is wrong...when logic dictates that both can't be right.

Reading this book might go a very long way for creating empathy and understanding--even if that understanding is only why people disagree.

Talk to you all in a month..."The Believing Brain" trust me, good read.

No study of Singer's system can be complete without the session I played at Vegas Rex. It's not very scientific and I can't vouch for how closely I followed Singer's principles (I might have actually played more radically than he recommends). But it was fun to do, and hopefully entertaining to read.

Allright, handicappers !
Can someone come up with the OVER/UNDER number on how many LVAers read "The Believing Brain"? Whatever the number, DonDiego takes the UNDER.

Can't go less than zero, but then again, with a couple of the people here,i suppose it's possible

EDIT: Then again the converse could very well be true as there are a number of highly intelligent types here who might actually pick it up. I call it a wash hehehe.

Just checking, but did anyone read the book I recommended?
There are two kinds of people: (1) people who will pay $100 for a 1/10 chance at $900, and (2) people who won't. No need for life coaches, nor hypnotism.

The $100 is real, the $900 is real, and the spinning wheel with 10 slots is real. Ideas can be debated endlessly. As can ideas about ideas.

I've got it on my list. I'm a bit disillusioned as on Amazon the used price in $3 more than new, and the Kindal price is just .50 less than new. I'll probably end up with the Kindal version as soon as I finish the couple of books I'm working on now.

I think you have a misconception as to the information contained within the book I suggested. It contains mostly scientific fact about the physiology of thought. There is very little conjecture within it and not much that is "up for debate". The Author is not coaching people he's just sharing the latest in medical and scientific research. He makes almost no suggestions as to what one should do with the information. It's not an advice book.

OK, but YOU wrote:

which is advice.

My point is, it doesn't matter how we think about thinking (about thinking...) there will still always be those two kinds of people.

Re: "The Believing Brain"

An excerpt from the author's website: www.michaelshermer.com .

DonDiego opines lots of folks would find lots of things "up for debate" after reading just this excerpt. I suppose Mr. Shermer believes those folks are just wrong. Or maybe he knows they are wrong.
